Atanu was a location[3] in the Atanu system within the Alderath sector of the Mid Rim[1] and New Territories.[2] It was situated in grid square L-7 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1]
Prior to his death[3] in 1 ABY,[4] General Jan Dodonna of the Rebel Alliance undertook preliminary scans for a new base of operations. Atanu was among the locations scanned, along with Hoth, Jabone IV, Lonania Prime, and Mupin XII.[3] Around 2 ABY,[5] Rebel Alliance members Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker, and Han Solo were sent on a reconnaissance mission to the potential locations, including Atanu.[3]

Atanu was mentioned in the sixty-seventh issue of the 2015 Star Wars comic series. The issue was written by Kieron Gillen and published by Marvel Comics[3] on June 19, 2019.[6]
