- "So ND, this uh, Hive thing. How does it work?"
"It's the foundation of Melitto culture. Everyone obeys the Queen and puts the clan's needs over their own." - ―Kay Vess and ND-5
Ashiga Clan enforcers were soldiers serving under the Ashiga Clan, along with Queen Ashiga, the leader of the clan. The enforcers consists mainly of the Melitto species, armed with the ABR-2 Zato blaster rifle and sometimes with vibroblades. Based at the Ashiga Clan stronghold on the frozen world of Kijimi, they served as the primary soldiers of the Melitto hive, guarding Ashiga facilities and enforcing Ashiga rule over the Kijimi population.
History
Early history
The Ashiga Clan enforcers originated from a clan of Melitto known as the Ashiga Clan, a group which settled on Kijimi City during the High Republic Era to eventually establish a strong influence over the frigid planet of Kijimi. Serving under the queen of the clan, Ashiga, many Melitto of the hive would become the Ashiga Clan enforcers as guards for Ashiga facilities, or as soldiers implementing clan activities such as extortion.[1]
Imperial Era
Ashiga Clan enforcers were prevalent within Kijimi City by the Imperial Era.[2] However, as the Ashiga Clan's power began to weaken, Queen Ashiga established a relationship with the Galactic Empire, manufacturing explosives in return for resources to fund their expansion across the galaxy. Due to the said expansion, Ashiga Clan enforcers also had a small presence on the desert world of Tatooine to guard the Ashiga Clan operative Zyssyk. At some point, the clan would capture the explosive expert Ank Parako to build explosives for the Empire. However, the decisions of Queen Ashiga caused dissent amidst the hive, with the daughter of the queen, Krisk Ashiga, allying with the Crimson Dawn leader Qi'ra for a plot to the hive. Some enforcers would defect to Crimson Dawn as a result.[1]
By 3 ABY,[2] the outlaw Kay Vess and her crew would come to Kijimi in search of Ank Parako, hoping to recruit her as the safe cracker for a heist, where they encountered Ashiga Clan enforcers when landing at the Kijimi spaceport. After failing to convince the queen to release Parako, Vess allied with Crimson Dawn as part of their revolution that can free Parako along the way. Several Ashiga Clan enforcers were present when Kay Vess rescued Ank Parako from the Ashiga weapons factory. Many Ashiga Clan enforcers also guarded the Ashiga Clan stronghold when Crimson Dawn launched an attack against the clan.[1]
