A task force of three Republic Navy Venator-class Star Destroyers[1] was under the command of Jedi General Ares Nune[3] during the Clone Wars. During the Malevolence Campaign[1] in 22 BBY,[2] After the destruction of several Republic fleets by the Separatist Alliance warship and flagship of General Grievous, Malevolence,[3] Jedi General Plo Koon of the Fourth Fleet dispatched multiple Venator-class Star Destroyers to locate and destroy the new Separatist superweapon.[1]
Nunes and their task force discovered the vessel in the Inner Rim's,[4] Phu system.[1] where Grievous had transmissions blocked and attacked the task force, which resulted in Nune's Venator-class cruiser and its two escort[3] Venators being destroyed. The Galactic Republic subsequently discovered the loss, and Jedi General Plo Koon tracked down the Malevolence to the Abregado system,[1] where his task force was also destroyed.[5]
Behind the scenes
Ares Nune's task force was first mentioned in Star Wars canon in the German release of the forty-third issue of De Agostini's Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine[1] which was released around October 28, 2015.[6] Master Nune's task force originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity with the release of The Clone Wars: Shakedown, a webcomic[7] authored by Pablo Hidalgo[8] and released on StarWars.com[9] on October 2, 2008[10] that tied directly into the episode "Rising Malevolence," the second episode of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars that released the next day.[11]
