"My love of wildlife developed at a young age. As a child, I traveled with my family across the galaxy, continuing the San Tekka clan's legacy of locating and mapping out hyperspace lanes. While my parents worked, I'd sneak off to explore whatever planet we'd landed on, searching for new-to-me creatures."
―Ardis San Tekka, in her journal[1]

At least two individuals were members of the San Tekka clan and at one point had a childArdis San Tekka. While Ardis was a child, she and her parents traveled across the galaxy so they could locate and map hyperspace routes, continuing the family's legacy. While her parents worked after they landed on planets, Ardis snuck off to explore and search for new creatures. Sometime later, Ardis discovered her first hyperspace lane and, in keeping with San Tekka tradition, her parents gave her a gundark belt.[1]

While Ardis served as Director of Creature Cartography in the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts[1] no earlier than 35 ABY,[2] she and her safari droid B8-T5 "Bait" compiled a journal about various non-sentient species they had encountered together. In the journal's introduction, Ardis mentioned her travels with her parents, noting it had resulted in her love of wildlife. Within an entry about gundarks later in the journal, Bait recalled Ardis' being given the belt by her parents.[1]
