Anza[6] was a fiery red star[7] located in the Abregado system[3] of the galaxy's Core Worlds[1] and the Interior[2] that was orbited by the planet Abregado-rae,[4] both of which were located in the grid square K-13 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] Its dim light provided enough energy to sustain life on Abregado-rae.[5]
In 22 BBY,[8] it was the site of the Battle of Abregado during the Clone Wars, where the Separatist Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence single-handedly annihilated an entire Republic fleet. The battle resulted in the formation of a debris field, comprised of starship wreckage, in orbit of Anza.[3]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the star of the Abregado system was created for "Rising Malevolence,"[3] the second episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars' first season, which originally aired on October 3, 2008.[9] However, it first appeared in the opening newsreel of "Ambush," the first episode of the season[10] that also aired on the same day.[11]
The star Anza was originally introduced in Coruscant and the Core Worlds, a 2003 Star Wars Legends sourcebook for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game.[12] The name was brought into canon by the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia.[6]
