- "Alluvial dampers regulate the flow of ion particles into the hyperdrive to help keep it from overheating."
- ―Malavai Quinn
An alluvial damper was a subsystem of a starship's hyperdrive that was responsible for the regulation of thrust output from the generator. It operated by moving a servomotor-controlled plate to channel the emission of ion particles from the hyperdrive in a certain direction.
Han Solo once resisted a temptation to convert C-3PO into a pair of backup alluvial dampers.[3]
