"And yet, it would be a mistake to look upon Calrissian even in those twilight years as if he were old or infirm. Anyone foolish enough to suggest such a thing might well have found themselves receiving a jab from his cane's aeroxite tip as a stern reminder of his past achievements."
―A book's description of Lando Calrissian's cane[1]

Aeroxite was a type of chrome-colored[3] steel.[2] It could be cast from ore mined in Velser's Ring,[1] an asteroid belt in the Outer Rim Territories' Bespin system.[4] By 35 ABY,[5] Lando Calrissian—a Resistance member[3] and former gambler,[1] smuggler,[3] Baron Administrator of the Cloud City settlement of the planet Bespin,[4] and Rebel Alliance officer—possessed a greel ebonwood cane with an aeroxite head and tip.[3] The cane's head was sculpted to resemble Cloud City and had the Aurebesh inscription "Baron Landonis Calrissian" on it, while its tip could have potentially been used to jab anyone suggesting that the aging Calrissian was old or infirm—as was eventually noted in an entry on the cane included in[1] a book[6] describing objects relating to the history of the galaxy.[1]

Behind the scenes

Aeroxite first appeared as part of Lando Calrissian's cane in The Galaxy Needs You, a picture book written by Caitlin Kennedy, illustrated by Eda Kaban,[7] and published on December 17, 2019.[8] The illustration was based on Calrissian's look in[9] the December 20, 2019 sequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[10]

Chief costume concept artist Glyn Dillon and prop concept designer Matthew Savage created several concept art drawings featuring Lando Calrissian's cane. In Dillon's artwork, the cane's tip was white and its head was gold-colored, while Savage's illustration indicated that the cane's head incorporated "solidified tibanna ore."[11] Prior to the cane's debut in in-universe stories, it was first pictured on September 26, 2019 in a StarWars.com article previewing then-upcoming Star Wars merchandise, including that related to the film.[12] The metal was identified by name in the film's accompanying reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo.[3]
