Zess-flies were a type of fly. When the Death Star superweapon's Docking Bay 327 was locked down[1] in 0 BBY,[2] it caused a swarm of multicolored indicators representing traffic control for hangars 250 to 350 to crawl like zess-flies on a screen that Commander Pamel Poul was watching in the Death Star's Station Control West.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, zess-flies were mentioned in "End of Watch," a short story written by Adam Christopher and published in the 2017 anthology From a Certain Point of View.[1] The flies originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they first appeared in Drew Karpyshyn's 2007 novel, Darth Bane: Rule of Two, the second instalment in the Star Wars: Darth Bane Trilogy.[3]
