The Zebitrope system was a part of the Centrality sector in the Slice portion of the Outer Rim Territories. It was situated at the endpoint of the Cadma Conduit hyperlane, which connected it to the Cadma system.[1] The Zebitrope system contained[3] the terrestrial planets Zebitrope IV and Zebitrope VIII, which occupied the fourth and eighth orbital positions, respectively.[2]

Zebitrope IV was the homeworld of a[4] rare[3] species of lizard[4] that could also be found on Zebitrope VIII.[2] The lizards had a symbiotic relationship with a type of mold[4] that only grew on the reptiles' backs.[5] The mold was the only source of[4] the valuable and illegal drug lesai, which was exported to the wider galaxy by smugglers. They regularly visited Zebitrope VIII after completing the spice-trafficking route known as the Kessel Run,[3] thereby leading to the route's extension ending at the Zebitrope system to be named the Kessel Hop.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Zebitrope system was first mentioned in Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon, the 1983 second entry in The Lando Calrissian Adventures trilogy of novels by L. Neil Smith.[5] The system's first full appearance came with the depiction of Zebitrope IV in the 1998 video game Star Wars: Rebellion.[6]

The noncanonical article "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are" placed the Zebitrope system in the Zebitrope sector.

The noncanonical article "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are" placed the Zebitrope system in the Zebitrope sector.

"Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," a 1990 roleplaying game source article published in the thirteenth issue of the Voyages SF magazine, placed the Zebitrope system in the Zebitrope sector.[7] The article is considered noncanonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity.[8] Star Wars: Rebellion later placed Zebitrope IV in the "Dufilvan sector,"[6] a misspelling of the Dufilvian sector.[9] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas subsequently overrode the Star Wars: Rebellion placement by establishing that the Zebitrope system was situated in grid square T-8 as part of the Centrality.[1]

Information from The Essential Atlas created an apparent contradiction[1] with the mention of Zebitrope IV in Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon. The latter work describes a collection of spongy growths that could be found on Zebitrope IV as having originated on a planet "a quarter of a galaxy away" from the asteroid Oseon 6845 of the Oseon system,[5] which The Essential Atlas places in the same sector as the Zebitrope system.[1]
