The Yavinian doodar were a large reptilian creature that lived in the dense jungles of the moon Yavin 4. While Cassian Andor was escaping from the Maya Pei Brigade, one of the creatures ambushed members of the rebel cell, eating three of them alive.

Characteristics

The Yavinian doodar was a large,[2] four-legged carnivorous creature,[1] that was indigenous[3] to Yavin 4's dense jungles.[4] It had tusks protruding from its jaws, as well as sharp teeth inside its mouth.[1] The tusked, reptilian doodar was a territorial creature with quick instincts and a strong bite. It was more likely to protect its land, than to attack outright. The Yavinian doodar's low rumbling growls were sometimes confused with thunder.[3]

History

In 4 BBY,[5] during a turf war on Yavin 4, two members of the Maya Pei Brigade, Bardi and Gerdis, were playing a game of Five Hands with Roski rules to decide who would depart and who would stay on the moon. The two rivals stopped playing the game after they heard a low rumbling growl, which they confused with thunder. A moment later, they were ambushed by a Yavinian doodar, who devoured them, putting their comrades on alarm, while they fired their blasters in the creature's direction. The Yavinian doodar's attack on the Maya Pei enabled Cassian Andor to escape the dense jungled moon in his stolen TIE Avenger.[1]

Behind the scenes

The Yavinian doodar first appeared in "Sagrona Teema," the second episode of Star Wars: Andor's second season,[1] which premiered on April 22, 2025.[6] The doodar was later identified in the Databank,[3] as well as an article published on StarWars.com the following day. The Yavinian doodar was described as "hippo-like" and named after its designer, Alexander Dudar. The jungle clearing where Andor encountered the Maya Pei rebels was a section of Longcross Studios test track covered in plants by the Andor Greens team.[2]
