Cut Off from the Force

This is linked to from Force powers, however the link was added within the last day I believe. This is either in serious need of rewrite or just a nice quick death to start over, or even deem it uncanon, because I haven't heard of this as an actual force power. Getting cut off from the force is the opposite of a force power. -- Riffsyphon1024 18:29, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Keep

  1. Sorry guys, I put the link and thought there needed to be an article. I did a bit of a rewrite. Rename it if you wish, but I think this article does need to be. I remember reading someone having their connection to the force severed. For the life of me I cannot remember where I read it, but I am _sure_ that a force user has performed this action against another. Might have been during the the Sith Wars period, not sure. However, it would perfectly explain the Yuuzhan Vong (not sure if it's canon, but would be worth mentioning in a "Behind the Scenes" section. If someone knows what I am talking about, and remembers, post up here. Otherwise, kill it, and if I remember what I mean, I'll put in to resurrect it. Serendipitousus 18:54, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  2. Ah. And here's _a_ mention of the power. Not the one I was thinking of, but it mentions it's use. Darth_Traya
  3. It's appearaed in several sources, and we have precedent for including stuff that has no official name. So what if it needs a rewrite? Kuralyov 21:31, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  4. Is there no better name for this?--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 21:34, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  5. Per Kuralyov. - Yoshi626 21:38, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  6. Keep, but for the love of Waru rename. Havac 22:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  7. Valid entry, suggested renames being: Force Severance, Force Excommunication. A New Challenger 22:24, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  8. Per Kuralyov. Atarumaster88 Jedi Order (Audience Chamber) 15:34, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
  9. The article is now better, so I say keep it. Jorrel Fraajic 15:28, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  10. Changing my vote yet again. According to discussion from the Jedi Exile page, neither the Jedi Exile or Kyle Katarn were severed from the force using Sever Force. Instead, both articles list them as "cutting themselves off". I don't have the source materials, but would appreciate if someone could look that up. If that indeed is the case, it would appear we have on our hands a new force power, entitled Cut Off from the Force, a weaker version of Sever Force, that needs an article and information. Merge

  1. Merge and redirect to Sever Force. It is a canonical Force power. Ulic Qel-Droma was severed and the Exile very nearly was.–SentryTalk 10:10, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

  11. Merge and redirect "Cut off from" isn't a proper title anyway, as it contains two prepositions without a noun in between. :) Wildyoda 22:31, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Btw, I like the new system how it automatically sets up the pages. -- Riffsyphon1024 18:29, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
    • NEGAS says the Vong were "cut off from the Force" by Yuuzhan'tar. This "ability" was also used on Ulic Qel-Droma if you recall? "The punishment reserved for only a few." Not sure if it is actually a Force power, though. Has it ever really been named?--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 19:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
      • I thought "Sever Connection" or "Sever Force" sounded better, but I don't have any of the source material to work from right now. Mostly I'm pulling from other Wookieepedia entries. Some say "cut off from the force" some say "severed connection to the force". Not sure what the proper title is, but perhaps just survey the material which calls it anything, and adopt whichever is most common? Serendipitousus 21:53, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
        • I believe "Sever Force" is the name of the feat or skill mentioned in the Power of the Jedi Sourcebook, though I don't have the book and can't check to be sure. I'm pretty sure what happened to the Yuuzhan Vong was different (and more) than this, though. jSarek 09:27, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
          • An anon created Sever Force. I add the content from Cut Off from the Force, so it'll be there if you're correct.--Lord OblivionSith holocronSith Emblem 16:06, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Anything left to do before changing Cut Off from the Force to redirect to Sever Force? -Fnlayson 22:19, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
    • Well, yes actually. A few of us are having a discussion on the Jedi Exile's talk page about this being the actual title for a page about the force ability to cut oneself off _temporarily_ as distinct from sever force which cut them off permanently, as it was for Ulic Quel-Droma and the Yuuzhan Vong. This temporary cut off apparently happened to the Jedi Exile and Kyle Katarn (both of their own accord). Perhaps this page should stay, but the content should be changed address this new meaning. Serendipitousus 04:09, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
      • When Luke called his lightsaber to his hand in the cave on Hoth, and when Yoda lifted the X-Wing from the swamp, they were both using the same power to different degrees. Depending on how long something hot is held to your skin, you can get a burn for a few days or a permanent scar. Same goes for this, I think. There's not enough difference in these abilities to warrant a separate article IMO. Wildyoda 22:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
      • Oh, and nobody mentioned Jacen Solo. Vergere severed his Force connection and that was supposedly permanent until he learned to touch the Force another way. our lack of knowledge about it I think is the best evidence that it should all be in one article with speculation listed in behind the scenes or something. Wildyoda 22:39, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
        • But we do have different articles for Force Wave, Force Repulse, and Force Whirlwind. These are all listed under their own articles, although they are really just Force Pushes of differing strengths (which is itself just one of many forms of Telekinesis. I'm amenable to listing these things as BTS on the Sever Force page until more information becomes available. Serendipitousus 00:02, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
