- With the start of the new year, I'm extremely pleased to present Tommy-Macaroni as our newest candidate for Wookieepedia administrator. Tommy joined Wookieepedia in February 2016, and in those three years he has developed into one of our most respected editors and has risen to some of the highest tiers of user responsibility on our wiki. He gained Rollback rights in July 2018 and has used that responsibility flawlessly. As a member of our AgriCorps and EduCorps status-article reviewing boards, he regularly demonstrates a fair, levelheaded, and constructive approach to interacting with his fellow editors on our most important articles. Speaking from personal experience, it's always a treat working with Tommy on objections, because he always has an open mind to constructive criticism rather than being defensive and combative. Tommy has a daily presence in our IRC channel, which, as we often speak to, makes people into better editors and better administrators, and he's a great example of this. Unfortunately, several of our current administrators have an increasingly waning involvement with the wiki and its community matters, which I believe heightens the need for us to elect a deserving candidate to fill those spaces. And I believe Tommy is the most deserving and qualified user for the job. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 20:38, January 1, 2019 (UTC)
- Tommy absolutely deserves this. His work both on articles and in the community has been consistently excellent and he's just an all round decent guy. Ayrehead02 (talk) 22:28, January 1, 2019 (UTC)

- Not much to add here. Tommy is an outstanding user and it's a joy to work with him. Adding another community-involved administrator is definitely a step in the right direction. 1358 (Talk) 23:15, January 1, 2019 (UTC)

- It is absolutely a pleasure to support this nomination. Without repeating too much of what's been said above, Tommy has absolutely earned this, and he has my full support. Supreme Emperor (talk) 04:05, January 3, 2019 (UTC)
- Remarkably, as far as I am able to recall, this person has not done anything to make me dislike him more than I already generally dislike all human beings. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 03:01, January 5, 2019 (UTC)

Optional candidate Q&A
- Why do you want to become an administrator?
- Of course, becoming an administrator would allow me to much better engage with the community and benefit the site with tools such as blocking and deleting. However, beyond that, I feel that becoming an admin shows a clear signal to other users in the community that I am willing to help them in their problems and disputes, and that I am a trusted user they can turn to advice for.
- In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
- I believe an admin is the focal point of the Wookieepedia community. We should be both willing to assist and help fellow users, but also to carry out sanctions against those who would harm the site. Furthermore, access to more technical tools help us maintain the site in general, beyond the editing patterns of other users.
- In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
- Although administration is primarily a technical position, with the holding of extra tools to help the site, with admins being experienced and looked-up-to users, there will always be a political dynamic.
- How do you feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
- There is a reason the admins' votes aren't worth more than a user's in a CT or TC. Admins are not supposed to be "more important" in any way, but perhaps to be looked up to for fair and reasoned logic in the face of a dilemma by other users to consolidate their own opinion.
- Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- I think most of us were reverted in our early days of editing, and there is no shame in that. I'm sure we are all better users because of it because it made our policies more clear to us. Although I cannot think of any specific situation, I am sure I probably did revert another user's edit too hastily in my editing youth, although I doubt I ever felt stressed by this site. I do edit here for enjoyment, after all. However, with the guidance other current admins and fellow users over the course of the last three years, I now feel I can be trusted to fairly deal with other users' conflicts, and certainly not to fall into any of my own, owing to me swiftly and fairly assessing the situation and the other user(s)' points of view.
- Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- Uhh, I guess if you know me you'll know of my love for Star Destroyers and all things Imperial, and I like to think I have improved those pages since I've been here. I'm also very proud of my GAs, especially considering I only started writing for review in the last year.
- What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
- Of course, I will continue to utilise rollback to combat vandalism, and I hope to also use blocking to stop more persistent threats to the site's integrity. I commonly find myself using the {{Delete}} template, so being able to delete articles for myself and others will be useful. Also, closing threads and resolving disputes will become priorities.
- How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, FA, GA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?
- As admins are vital to the community, it should be essential they take part in these discussions that build the community to show we are involved and dedicated to the site. I already vote on CTs and GAs for this reason, although the FAN less so (frankly that page scares me).
- Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
- Perhaps a sanction or punishment is a little too extreme for a first offence, but the issue should certainly be investigated by fellow admins and bureaucrats. Perhaps if the action was warranted it could be accepted, but nonetheless it should be codified in policy before it is further enacted.
- What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?
- I try to put the welcome message template on all redlinked user talk pages I see in the RC, as those provide vital links to policies that should be read by all users. If the user reads them is another issue entirely, but I live in hope. As for Anons, I tend to give them their talk page template only if they have a lot of contributions, so as to hopefully guide them to making a full account.
- How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?
- We all make mistakes, and I would be grateful to someone who spotted my error. I would never restore a deleted article (the wasn't deleted as an obvious mistake) out of the blue without contacting the original deleter first.
- How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?
- I would be shocked that I had offended someone to the extent they would vandalise my page specifically. I would, of course, revert them and contact them on their talk page, initially with the pre-typed vandalism message, but with my own response if their attack seemed more personal. If it continued, banning may be the only option, although I would not ban a user lightly.
- Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
- Just because a user is established doesn't mean they are exempt from the rules. They should be treated the same as any other user, which may include a blocking is the offence was serious enough.
- If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?
- I once thought about a way to get appearances onto pages automatically after being filled in in the media article, where the site automatically did it like a mini-template, with the order from one of the timeline pages. Buuuuuut this probably wouldn't work in reality and would be an ass to implement, so I think a large issue we currently have is the FAN page. Simply put, it isn't reasonable for articles to pass near enough to a year after being nominated. I don't know a solution to this though, or really does anyone.
- Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?
- I'm happy to admit I'm a pessimist, but I think the bigger issue is that there's room for more alcohol in the glass.
- Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?
- I think the current policy is good, having been perfected by over a decade of trial and error. That doesn't mean it's perfect, and it should definitely be altered through consensus should an issue with it arise.
- Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?
- I already am, and really recommend it for anyone wanting to become more involved in the community.
- How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?
- Any user can suggest a policy change, influential people included. And if it's a well-liked suggestion I see no issue. However, if the policy is poorly thought out, or tied to their own agenda, this is unacceptable and I'd hope the opposition votes for the policy would show this. Just because you hold power outside of this site doesn't mean you should hold power within it.
- How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)
- What's a Clone War?
- Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)
- The best Jedi is a dead Jedi.
- What's more important to you: consensus or policy?
- Policy should only exist through consensus, although I think that policy itself is more crucial to the site. Consensus just safeguards the policies.
- Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?
- Nothing specific springs to mind, although I'm always willing to lead a group should they need it. I guess my place in the EC and AC review bodies is also a type of leadership in a way, and although I've only hosted one meeting I did enjoy doing so.
- What is your attitude towards users who have quit the site or have been banned, but still continue to attempt to influence the site in any way?
- I have no issue with users who have quit and rejoined. The site is addictive after all. I have no issues with users who wait out their ban and then resume non-disruptive editing. After all, if we didn't want banned users to return everyone would get a perma-ban. However, users who avoid their ban with sock puppets, or come back from their ban with a vengeance and resume disruption should not be given lenience and steps should be taken to remove those whose intentions are to only cause issues.
- What is your wiki philosophy?
- To be perfectly honest, I've never really looked into those "Inclusionist" or "Mergist" ideas. Each situation is different, so perhaps it's best not to just stick a label on a thought and try to apply it to situations different from each other.
- Anything else?
- I feel like now is a good time to let you guys who aren't already aware that I'm only 16, although I feel I am very mature for my age, and hopefully my edits over the last 3 years have shown this. I also refuse to apologise for my use of British spelling in this. Also also, expect these questions to be nominated to the FAN page within the week :P Tommy
