Two week deadline from first request, voting ends 12 October 2008.

  1. Jorrel has been a very dedicated user for quite a long time now, and would have been nominated prior to this were he not underage. With six Featured and four Good articles under his belt, Jorrel is no stranger to the processes of the wiki. He patrols the recent changes with regularity, and was awarded the rollback button quite some time ago in recognition of his actions. As well, Jorrel is easy to get along with, for which he won Wookieepedian of the Month recently, and always seems to weigh matters out and make his own decision when it comes to consensus threads or nominations of any sort. 8. Jorrel said he would never accept a nomination. But now he has. How can we trust Jorrel on anything? (Okay, I've seen waaay too many political ads lately!) :-P Per Cualtor—'bout danged time! -- Ozzel 01:25, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

  20. Initially, I wasn't going to vote on this. Not for any real fault of Jorrel's, but I thought we had close to enough admins at present. However, after seeing a fanon article marked for deletion sit there for over four hours - it's still there now - with admins' names showing up in the RCs, I think Jorrel can and will do an effective job patrolling the RCs and removing the crap, among other things. -- AdmirableAckbar (Talk) 22:24, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Optional candidate Q&A
  1. Why do you want to become an administrator?
    • I feel that I can really help out in patrolling Recent Changes and handle some of the logistics if any of our other current admins don't happen to be on at the moment. There've been several times where an article needs deleting but sits for some time just because no one is around to get to the deletion.
  2. In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
    • To maintain the quality of the site, be it through warning/blocking disruptive users, deleting articles which break the rules, and making executive decisions - with other admins, etc - on certain issues and the like. However, there is also a deeper yet less utilized role, and that is to essentially point users to this group of elected "officials" as it may be and say "be like these guys" - you don't gain adminship from running around blanking pages.
  3. In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
    • Honestly (and I know it'll sound cliche), I feel it's both in equal parts. Sure, an admin has to take care of users and deal with any problems that may arise, but they are also the only ones who are able to delete articles and deal with the technical sides of things. It's a mixture of both, since many areas can overlap. You've also got to remember that an admin is someone who people should be able to look up to, be it in diplomacy, work ethic, projects/amounts of work, etc., so it's political that way too.
  4. How do you feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
    • I feel the need to quote ol' Palpy here, but, since I know that's not how it works, I'll hold off. :P Seriously, though, IMHO admins are here to keep the Wook on track. As such, they are a "higher among equals" - they shouldn't be all powerful. However, it is an important position and needs to be understood that
  5. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
    • The most stressful adventure I've ever had on the Wook is actually this nomination right here. Honestly, I can't think of one instance where I've butted heads with another user or group of users over a particular subject.
  6. Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
    • Well, I really like all of my FAs and GAs (noms too)... if I had to pick a favorite, it'd be Waru, since there was so much hype over it getting the FA treatment. Other than him, I really like my first (XJ-6 airspeeder), Ice cream maker guy, Emkay, that one car from the Rogue Squadron games... alright, I like them all. Except Ultimo Vista. I still have no idea why I did that one.
  7. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
    • I'm guessing, based on my nature and abilities and current affairs, I'm going to largely help in monitoring the RCs for any problems, be it vandals or page deletions. There'll probably be banning involved, but probably not as a large portion of my chores.
  8. How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, IDrive, FA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?
    • IDrive? Shouldn't that be taken out now? :P As for the rest, I'm extremely involved and concerned with watching over CTs and any Mofferences - since I really like to be "in the know" at all times, it helps to be involved with the decision process.
  9. Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
    • It depends on how far out of range it is, and how stubborn the admin in question is when confronted. If it's a simple mistake, there should be no action beyond pointing it out. If it's on the other end of the spectrum, action should indeed be taken.
  10. What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?
    • Well, since SFH generally gets to the new guys before any of us, I tend to not really be on the welcoming committee. On the off chance I do end up welcoming someone, I do look at the contributions to see if it's wiser to put {{test2}} ~~~~ rather than a {{SUBST:W|Jorrel Fraajic|~~~~}}, since the messages are largely different. As for IPs, on any huge edit performed, I always check what it is to make sure it's valid. If it is, then I let him keep on keeping on. If not, I do tend to hold back to see if a warning is needed.
  11. How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?
    • I'd be fine with it. It's not like I'd be the only admin on here, and I wouldn't run the site anyway. If someone undeletes an article, with canon proof it exists, I'm fine with it. As for the other side of the issue, I'd look over everything to make sure I'm right in the undeletion, and then go through with it. If the admin who speedied it objects, I'll work it out with him and explain reasoning.
  12. How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?
    • I've had my userpage vandalized once or twice before; since it's really easy to repair, I really don't care. I would consider at least warning the user after checking his contribs; if his edits were completely worthless and only used for vandalism, then blockings would commence. If not, whatever, someone's mad at me for an unknown (or known as it may be) reason. I'll warn him; he'll get over it, or he'll get banned.
  13. Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
    • Now this is a bit harder. I'm of the stance that if it's really that big of an issue, someone more seasoned than I would have already taken care of it, especially considering how fast news travels from the Wook to IRC and back. On the off chance the task falls to me, I'd lean more towards the lenient side, depending on the conditions, because of my nature to offer the second chance. If the event is major, though, I'd take care of it.
  14. If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?
    • The admin age laws :P. Short of that, deeming certain T-canon *cough* to be N-canon. Short of that, more hyperinclusionists!
  15. Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?
    • I'm sure everyone would like me to say half-full, but if you've been around me even 1 day in IRC you'd easily see it's half-empty. In fact, I'd probably drain the glass to make it all-empty.
  16. Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?
    • Since I've never had to worry about it, I've really no suggestions one way or the other. I've seen it in use, though, and the Wook hasn't burned up, so I figure something must be right.
  17. Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?
    • Never. I didn't even know there was IRC! SHOCK AND AWE.
  18. How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.Net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?
    • Honestly, I feel "eh" about it - and by "eh" I mean "I don't really care". If it's such a controversial thing, then the regular users are going to put a stop to it. If it's minor, then the community decides. It's not like someone can just waltz (or foxtrot, or swing, if that's your thing) in and make radical changes without somebody noticing, so it's all pretty much self-regulating.
  19. How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)
    • Depends; are we talking Kaminoan clones or Spaartis? And do the clones-turned-Mandies count? Anyway, I'd say over 1, less than infinity.
  20. Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)
    • Umm... Kyle Katarn? (I'd say Waru if he were a Jedi :P )
  21. Are you or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?
    • Maybe?
  22. What's more important to you: consensus or policy?
    • They both go hand-in-hand. Consensus often decides policy, and policy controls consensus (in a large scale). You can't have one without the other, and as such I feel both are equally important. I do prefer policy in terms of writing, since it's easier to standardize.
  23. Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?
    • I was the Newspaper/Yearbook editor for my Sophomore year of high school.
