- In addition to a very successful career on another wiki, where he serves as an admin and a featured article writer, Cav has become quite the rising star here on Wookieepedia, having recently been added to the ranks of the Inquisitorius for his article review talents. Cav is also no stranger to Featured and Good articles on this wiki; he launched a personal campaign to improve DarkStryder articles, and has amassed eight FAs and 27 (unless I've lost count) GAs in the process. Cav has never been in conflict with any other user, to my knowledge, and always conducts himself rationally and amicably. Graestan(Talk) 20:23, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Optional candidate Q&A
- Why do you want to become an administrator?
- Because I believe that I can help, in any and all capacities. I'm active much of the day throughout the week, and being English I'm around when other administrators may not be due to the difference in timezones. I have experience of being a wiki administrator, so I know that I can handle the responsibilities. And because its really weird not having all the shiny buttons when I switch between wikis.
- In your opinion, what is the role of an administrator?
- An administrator is many things—a guardian, a shepherd, a neutral party to name but a few. They have to maintain the quality of the Wook through the enforcing of policy, guiding new users as they begin their first steps into the site, assisting regular and established contributors as best they can, and mediate disputes between users.
- In your view, do administrators hold a technical or political position?
- Both. Administrators are entrusted with the tools to effectively administrate the site through the use of deletions, blocks and protections, but at the same time they must be open to the community, listening to them and assisting them in any way possible.
- How do you feel admins should use their power/stand in comparison with other users?
- Administrators are granted with power and responsibilities by the community itself, and it is important to remember that without their support, the administrator would never have attained that position. While administrators may have the status of first among equals, a regular user's contributions are as important as theirs. However, the position of administrator must be respected—although the person in question has to earn it.
- Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- I've never been in conflict with another user over anything on the Wook, but this may have to do with my tendency to stay away from the more contentious and major articles and busy myself in DarkStryder-related corner. I feel that if the situation did arise, I would be able to resolve it in a fair and rational manner involving discussion of the issue.
- Of your articles or contributions to Wookieepedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- I'm proud of all my FAs and GAs, but Horzao Darr was my first and its success gave me the drive to carry on with nominations. Also, Monjai—mentioned a handful of times in two DarkStryder books—which I turned into a GA just to see if I could.
- What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
- All of them—if you accept the mantle, then you must be prepared to accept all the responsibilities and chores that go with it.
- How important is it for you to be involved in things such as CT, IDrive, FA, and other community-centered items that involve discussion and voting?
- I believe it to be important, although I do admit to not being as active as I would like in CT issues. I am, however, active on both the FAN and GAN pages, which has resulted in my appointment to both the Inquisitorius and AgriCorps.
- Do you think admins performing actions (I.e. deletions, blocks, etc.) for reasons not covered on policy should be sanctioned/punished? If so, how?
- It depends on the action itself. If the action results in a positive outcome, then it should be looked at to see if it should be added to the existing policy. If the outcome is negative—such as an admin deleting a page purely because they dislike the idea of it—then the admin in question should be questioned over their actions, and disciplinary measures taken if necessary. Remember that no matter how comprehensive you think the rules are, there's always an exception.
- What is your policy, if any, of welcoming new users? Should you welcome a new user, do you look at his/her contributions beforehand? What about anonymous IPs?
- To be honest, I've never welcomed a new user to this site, mainly because someone else usually beats me to the punch. Drawing on experience administrating at the HP wiki, I tend to welcome all named users, but check their contributions beforehand to see if I need to append a warning notice as well. As for anon IPs, I tend to welcome them in the hopes that they will register, but, again, I will note their contributions to see if a warning should be applied as well.
- How would you react if someone undeleted an article you'd mistakenly speedied? Under what circumstances would you consider it appropriate to undelete an article mistakenly speedied by another administrator, if any, and how would you approach this task?
- If I've made a mistake and deleted a legitimate article, then I have no problem with it, although I would consider it a courtesy to have the reason why relayed to me. Similarly, if I know an article to be legitimate and restore it, I would explain why in the edit summary and leave a message on the appropriate admin's talk page, or tell them on IRC.
- How would you react if your user page was vandalized? Under what circumstances would you block the offender? Is there anything else that you would do in this situation?
- The wonderful thing about wiki articles is that they can be easily fixed, so it doesn't bother me a great deal. It also depends on the offense—it may have been a genuine effort to "correct" something that didn't need correcting (such as my British spelling). In that case, a gentle worded warning should be enough. If it was a malicious attack, then a block as warranted by policy should be enough, followed by a protection on the user page to deter further attacks.
- Under what circumstances would you consider blocking an established user?
- If they violated policy—as an established user, they should know the policies and adhere to them—then a ban according to policy is warranted. Just because they are established users does not mean they are above anyone else. Violating policy if you are unaware of it is forgiveable, but violating it although you are aware of it is a conscious act.
- If you could change any one thing about Wookieepedia, what would it be?
- Until recently, the GAN page and policies would have been my answer. At the moment, I can't think of anything other than renaming it DarkStryderpedia.
- Would you look at a glass to be half-empty or half-full?
- It doesn't matter as long as it has alcohol in it.
- Do you feel the current blocking policy is too restrictive, not restrictive enough, or OK as it is?
- I believe it to be up to the task. It works, so there is no need to fix it.
- Have you ever considered becoming a regular visitor to the Wookieepedia IRC chat?
- Hell no. That place is scary. :P
- How do you feel about people who already have some influence on other Star Wars communities (TheForce.Net, StarWars.com) trying to change policies here?
- I've never seen it happening, so I have no opinion on it. However, policies do not spring into existence. They are discussed and voted on, so no one single person can dictate policy.
- How many clones do you think fought in the Clone Wars? (Note: You are wrong no matter what answer you give.)
- It doesn't matter what I think, since the answer will be retconned a few minutes after I give it.
- Who is the most awesome Jedi of all time? (Note: The only correct answer is Kyle Katarn.)
- "Halbret or Kyle Katarn?"
"Halbret! No, wait, Kyle!"
"Too late, you already said Halbret!"
"I didn't mean it!"
"Oh, alright then."
- "Halbret or Kyle Katarn?"
- Are you or have you ever been a member of the Communist Party?
- Oh, sure. Let's see...[pulls out wallet, starts going through it] I'm an elk, a Mason, a communist. I'm the president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance for some reason...ah, here it is. The Stonecutters.—Abe Simpson
- What's more important to you: consensus or policy?
- Neither. Policy is the result of consensus. If an issue is important enough to require consensus, it will become policy. As a community driven site, every user should be free to share their views on a subject.
- Have you had any previous leadership experience (in your community, on the web, etc.)?
- As stated above, I've been one of the admins over at the Harry Potter Wiki for just over a year. In my professional life, I've run departments and offices, supervising staff and managing day to day operations.
