With this confirmed, I think it would be good to reword "While floating on their backs in the immersion tanks of an alpha Crolute's mansion, Crolute clan leaders would engage in diplomatic and trade discussions, consuming fermented kelp-ichor prepared by the host's concubines and junior spouses." in respects to the kelp itself, like "The [kelp] was prepared by the concubines and junior spouses of an alpha crolute for consumption by the alpha and other crolute clan leaders during diplomatic and trade discussions in immersion tanks at the alpha crolute's mansion." or any other way you'd feel it'd make the kelp the subject of the sentence.
