Weltflies were creatures that stung their enemies. Although a weltfly's sting was not dangerous alone, a large number of them could be.[1] In 19 BBY,[2] during an attack on the Paataatus species' homeworld of Nettehi carried out by the Chiss Ascendancy, Mid Captain Ufsa'mak'ro, the Chiss heavy cruiser Springhawk's first officer, compared the Paataatus fighters' attacks to that of angry weltflies.[1]

Weltflies were mentioned in the 2020 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
