      • I was just going to let it die, but since others have joined the conversation, I can't.  :) I liked all that stuff Riff mentioned above (and don't forget the hoverboards), so I'm having a hard time putting my finger on it. Maybe it's the acting (Crispin Glover was a great George McFly...missed him in 2 and 3); it's so over-the-top. I love that about Doc, but grow weary of it with Biff.  :) Maybe it's the vision of the future (which every movie set in the future of course gets wrong). It was weird watching that and saying, "2015, eh? That's less than 10 years away...won't happen!") I don't think it was the special affects. They were really well done, and stand up amazingly well to today's standards. OK, I guess, I'm rambling now.         • Not as charming, maybe, but that's not what appeals to me about it. 2 is, and this is coming from a guy who's read a great deal of the Star Wars EU, hands-down the most magnificent and iconic retconning in the history of the concept. I mean, half the movie takes place literally in the background of another movie! I mean, really just think about that for a second. And besides that, it's still every bit as cool as the first movie, even if it's not as quaint - but then, no sequel would've been. CooperTFN 21:16, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
          • BTTF II is in my opinion a great way of reconnecting all the themes and secnes, much like the two SW trilogies. Also when they released BTTF II in 1989, 2015 was still 26 years away. BTTF in society

Speaking of Back to the Future... has anyone else seen an increase in the number of references to BTTF? Over the past few months, it seems like I've noticed an increase in pictures of Doc, references to 88MPH, etc. Just wondering if anyone else has? Has BTTF become cool again or something? Not that it ever became un-cool in my book, but I don't pay much attention to society's measure of coolness.  :) WhiteBoy 16:06, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I have seen an increase in BTTF references on the internet recently. I don't mind it really, because BTTF is cool. I'm guessing it's because the people who were too young to see it (or weren't born yet) when it first came out are now discovering its coolness and want to spread the word over the internet. Ban Dilemma

I recently banned an anon for vandalism, and soon later I got an email from a registered user telling me that their account was also blocked by that action. He claims that he did not perform the vandalism, and I believe him. So what do i do? I'd like to unblock the anon IP so the registered user can be unblocked too. Though that might mean the vandal might come back. Arrg what to do? :-( --Azizlight 16:16, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I would give him a warning via email and put the same thing on his talk page; then unblock him. Even if he's the one doing it, six months is a bit long of a ban, IMO, for simply removing images. To me, that's noob user issue instead of vandal...ya know? Oh, and you can't believe everyone when they say they didn't do it.  :) I believed a guy the first time...the next time I shortened his ban....from there on I just ignored his pleas for release from bandom.  :) WhiteBoy 16:24, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

Copyright Question

I was looking at the Memory Alpha Copyrights (Creative Commons) and at the Wookieepedia:Copyrights (GNUFDL) and I noticed that they are under different policies. Since Star Trek and Star Wars seemed like they should be similar policy wise, I looked at why they don't use GNUFDL. Some of their reasons (especially the commercial use reason) seemed like they would apply to Wookieepedia too. Comments? --Jediarchives11 23:11, 4 February 2006 (UTC)

    • I don't think we would have that option. Memory Alpha existed already, then moved to Wikicites, so I think they are a special case. I could be wrong, but I think all wikis which started with Wikicities would have to be GFDL. WhiteBoy 22:55, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

        • I agree....the "commercial use" point seems to be the most compelling reason to consider a change. Worth noting is that we have copied several articles from Wikipedia, so we would have to identify which ones those are and totally rewrite them, if they have not already been totally rewritten.           • To clarify: Wikicities must use the GFDL. Memory Alpha and Uncyclopedia are not Wikicities and therefore can use whatever license they want. Jedi Archives

Hello. I am one of the founders of jediarchives.info, the Star Wars wiki site that you left a message at. You asked why am I duplicating effort and why don't I join you at Wookieepedia.

I started thinking about a Star Wars wiki before I found Wookieepedia, which I then discovered during the course of my wiki research. I liked it, but realized it had quite a few limitations that ultimately hindered it. The first was the ads. Wikipedia doesn't have them, so I don't think anyplace else should either. I will always run Jedi Archives ad-free, paid for either by me or by contributions, possibly. The second was the fact that it was through Wikicities. While it is a wonderful organization, it limits the type and the speed with which some things can be done.

I set up jediarchives.info and tried to improve upon some of the shortcomings that I found in Wookieepedia. I hope you understand what I'm trying to do. --Jediarchives11 03:46, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the response. Regarding your first point, I can understand your not liking the ads. I don't particularly like them either, but they are not very obtrusive, so I can live with them if that's what it takes for WikiCities to be able to make enough money to maintain their servers. (Rumor has it that you can personally turn this off, BTW...just not site-wide.) As to your second point, I don't know what you have in mind to do, but WikiCities has been great to work with. They have been great in supporting any questions I have; they have been proactive in asking us if we need other things besides just the wiki; and they seem to be very open to suggestions. However, I can see what you mean...ultimately we are limited to what they are willing to do for us. So if we wanted something off the wall, like hosting a Quake server or whatever, they would have to be willing to do that. Up to this point and for the forseeable future, our goals are very compatible, and they have done everything we needed. WhiteBoy 06:08, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Old images

I'm not quite sure if this is even a problem or not, but I figured I should probably ask one of the admins for help. Basically, I've uploaded a handful of newer revisions to some of my older images, so the older revisions can be deleted to conserve server space. Most of these were only used on talk pages, and I figured I should probably replace them with smaller versions to save space. I didn't realize at the time that the originals were STILL saved, so it kinda defeated what I was trying to do.... In any case, it couldn't hurt for someone with sysop capability to go through and trash everything but the current versions of all of the following:
File:Jaden.jpg, File:AlmostGrayden.jpg, File:GraydenKorr.jpg, File:Tavion1.jpg, File:Tavion2.jpg, File:Tavion4.jpg, File:716_tavion.jpg, .

I enjoyed reading your blog entry about Wookieepedia. While I disagree on several things, it seems to be a well-thought-out critique, and gave me several points to think about. I definitely agree with your basic principle that Wookieepedia should not be used as a forum for propaganda. The thing that needs to be discussed is how to best accomplish that goal in an open, wiki format.

For the record, this is the first I've heard about the things you're talking about, and *your* article was brought to my attention by Karen. I'm checking into her email, but it sounds like she has been under some pretty serious attacks. The [blog] comments are closed now, but I closely line up with Dark Spork's and WarlordEnfilade's opinions. The intention of the real-world articles is to provide factual content about the authors/artist/actors, etc.; it is not to be a soap box.

Finally, I will treat your article just as I would any other real-life person: if you want your article (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Dark_Moose) removed, I will remove it (or even lock it so it will remain as-is). Though looking at the article, I'm not sure what you object to; there's not a whole lot there.  :) I ask you to please allow us to keep the article.

I hope we can use this as a springboard to make things better at Wookieepedia.

Admin Nominating

It has come to me and many other Wookieepedians to think that the process of nominating a Wookieepedian for adminship is not fair. 2 great wookieepedians were rejected just be cause 1 admin objected, although many regular users and other admins supported those users. Me and Jack Nebulax think it should be changed somehow, its like the regular users votes dont count. Do you support the idea of changing the process somehow?   • I am always open to suggestions, but I have to tell you that it would be difficult to change my mind on this one. The main reason is that adminship on Wookieepedia means more than it does on other wikis. It is not simply for someone to have easier tools to revert and be able to ban someone quicker. It is a leadership role. An admin is someone that the community has to trust, and especially the other leaders of the community...which is why we have the unanimous-admin-vote rule. Noncivil remarks

I caught a user (User:81.223.23.159) making uncivil remarks at User Talk:Sikon. I didn't know what the correct templates are for that type of stuff are for this Wiki. So I imported one from Wikipedia.

If needed, you might either import the remainder of those templates or change my usage of that template to the correct one and delete mine. If you keep mine, you might want to fix the red links to point the correct pages here.

You see joker is Mandalore and i'm a fan of the mandalorians, also there are a quite a few other Mando'ade fans out there. well the whole reason of this is to see if you could allow us to set up a mandalorian clan page. Where mandalorian fans can talk about mandalorian stuff and share news. Also we could have little clubs for other suppoorters. like the jedi supporters give them like there own jedi order. and have the empire supporters, kotor supporters, mandalorian supporters. where they can all talk together and share new news on their page.   • While there definitely is a community here, that's not what the main focus of Wookieepedia. Our goal is to be a canonical (as opposed to fanon or fan fiction) Star Wars encyclopedia. The difference basically being Star Wars-centric, not fan-centric. I would recommend TFN for what you're suggesting about discussing various things.
