Welcome, Scales and Armor!

Hello, Scales and Armor, and welcome to Wookieepedia! We hope you like the place and choose to join us in building the best Star Wars encyclopedia there is. Here are some things you should know:

Wookiees-Transparent

New to wikis? Don't worry, we were all new once. Our welcome page has everything you need to get started, and the Jundland Wastes sandbox can be used for test edits. Don't be afraid to make mistakes—be bold!

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wookieepedian! If you have any questions, you can consult our FAQ, ask a question in the Senate Hall forum, visit our official IRC channel, or leave me a message on my talk page.
May the Force be with you! —Immi Thrax (talk) 03:23, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Categories

Hey, just wanted to let you know that you can add categories alphabetically, which is done most easily with the source editor. Cumulonimbus Cloud (Talk) 08:15, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Thank you for contributing to Wookieepedia! When editing, please remember to provide an edit summary more often. This helps your fellow Wookieepedians, particularly those patrolling the Recent changes, understand why you are making certain changes. Thanks! JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 04:47, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

  • Can you please explain this edit? Thanks. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 04:48, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
    • Hmmm, I see. In that case, can you please give a source that supports explicitly states claim? As well as for all the other articles you've added it to? A reliable source is always required per WP:S and WP:ATT. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 05:00, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
      • I understand your logic here, but it still feels like an assumption/speculation. You'll need to find something that explicitly states it. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 05:07, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
        • I'm not saying your claims make no sense, but your analysis of the Ewoks' reactions seems to violate WP:NOR to me. Like I said, these episodes don't explicitly state those species to be non-spacefaring. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 05:22, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Warning regarding categories

Please stop adding categories to articles based on speculation, or by a quality that a species does not possess. For categories to be meaningful, they should reflect a quality that is possessed, not one that isn't. "Non-Spacefaring species" is not a meaningful category to have; it is based on speculation and lowers the quality of our articles. This is especially noticeable when you added it on the pages that are "status articles"—Wookieepedia:Featured articles and Wookieepedia:Good articles—which represent the highest standard of pages. I encourage you to review the newcomers guide if you haven't yet. It has many helpful tips on how to edit, and on areas of the wiki that need help. Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 06:38, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

  • Hi Scales and Armors. Yes, I have, but "I saw it with my own eyes and came to this conclusion" isn't the same as having a verified source. Multiple different editors reverted your addition of that category. Please see our attribution policy for more information. Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 06:54, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Spacefaring species

Please note that per Discord consensus, Wookieepedia gains nothing from having this bloated category. Just because a species was seen outside their homeworld doesn't mean they themselves had interstellar travel, so that category is speculative and violates WP:ATT. Moreover, most species in Star Wars travel through space, so that category is highly unnecessary. It's not a meaningful category that readers would want to go through. This is Star Wars, after all. OOM 224 ༼༽talk༼༽ 07:30, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Please alphabetise categories

As I explained above, please sort categories in alphabetical order. Thank you. OOM 224 ༼༽talk༼༽ 17:43, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

Re: About the characters from the Ewoks cartoon

Actually, none of those characters you mentioned should be in the category as it is pure speculation. I'll remove it. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 05:15, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

  • There currently is not room for more images on those articles, so you would first need to expand them with all of the information from the episode. For the future, please use Special:Upload to upload images. For the Condor dragon thing, you'll want to ask Cwedin. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 15:06, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Speculation and personal attacks

I saw your messages to OOM 224 re: Pacithhip, and I don't know if this will help to explain, but here's why categorizing as mammalian is speculation. We can cite that in Star Wars, the species Pacithhip is part of a group of species called Pachydermoids. However, it's going beyond Star Wars sources to say that Pachydermoids must be pachyderms because they resemble real-world pachyderms, and to further say that since real-world pachyderms are mammalian, Pachydermoids are also mammalian. Unless a Star Wars source says otherwise, Pachydermoids could be non-mammalian; we do not speculate. Please keep your disputes about edits to the content of the edits, and don't make them about the contributors. It's not appropriate to accuse OOM 224 of not knowing about animal species, and it wasn't appropriate to accuse me of not knowing about Ewoks, either. Thank you. • Hi Scales and Armor. I understand why you're upset with the messages I've left you; sometimes we don't know how someone is going to take our messages. I sent you a welcome when you arrived, and messaged you when I noticed something that wasn't in keeping with our style here. Other editors and I try to help fellow editors on Wookieepedia by speaking with them directly when we've noticed a potential problem or mistake, and identifying possible ways to improve. If we notice that it's continued or become a pattern, we might speak up again. I messaged you again because of that—I saw that you seemed to be telling someone else they didn't know what they were talking about (which is a personal remark) and there was another concern about categorizing based on speculation. I appreciate that you want to help organize and classify articles here, but please take into consideration what other editors are advising. (For signing your messages, you can just type ~~~~ and it will automatically create the link to your profile and talk page.) Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 13:58, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Uploading files

You should use Special:Upload and follow all the instructions there whenever you want to upload an image. OOM 224 ༼༽talk༼༽ 20:56, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Oola and other questions

Hello again! It's quite all right to leave messages on talk pages with questions for a specific person :) You can also join Discord to ask questions of a larger group of users. As far as image uploading in general, the new Knight tutorial has a section for uploading an image. You don't need to share pictures as "proof" before making edits, though—just write up the content to add to an article and cite your sources. For Oola, you'd put her traits in a subsection: ==Personality and traits==. Please feel free to write it yourself! I "watch" her article and I recognize the story you're talking about, so I'd be happy to review your edits. (Poor Oola!) Can you explain further what you need to know for the Ewoks screenshots? I hope this helps! Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:02, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

  • I'm just speculating here, but usually when someone says something like that, it's because the other editor did not provide a reference citation. Reference citations are how we show proof of where our information comes from, whether that's in a book or online or in a film. They're the things that appear as little numbers in brackets like this:[1] with the full details appearing at the bottom of articles in the ==Notes and references== section. The Padawan tutorial explains how to add them. For instance, the first time Oola's story was cited on Oola/Legends looks like this:<ref name="Oola's Tale">{{Shortstory|story=A Time to Mourn, a Time to Dance: Oola's Tale|book=Tales from Jabba's Palace}}</ref>. Further citations after that look like this: <ref name="Oola's Tale" />. That's how we tell people the source of our information and lead them to it :) Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:52, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
    • The fair warning is appreciated, ha ha! One thing many of us do when we're trying things out and expect they'll be messy for awhile is use a personal workbench to draft and preview things. I have several of them myself! If I do this right, this should create a link for you... your first workbench, I hope. Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 22:10, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
      • Let me know when you're ready for more feedback. I don't want to overwhelm or upset you, but there are a few things to point out. Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 22:44, 3 July 2021 (UTC)
        • Hi again! I stepped away for much of the weekend, but ready to review. Some initial things to note are: we always write in past tense for in-universe sections, make sure to capitalize certain words like Twi'lek, and use the last names of characters after you use their full name. Manual of Style has some more information on style things like that. Feel ready to add those citations? :) Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 17:21, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
        • You're quite welcome! Do you have any other questions for me before we tackle those citations? I can spot some of them that are from the "Tale of Oola," but I haven't read the Fact File about her. Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 02:03, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

Otherside86 talk Hi, it's me. You messaged me a while back to share any information about Oola. Well here are some articles on Deviantart I thought you might wanna look at. My mistake

Hi, just wanted to apologize for removing Category:Endorians from character articles—I thought that it was for individuals native to the planet, but it's actually just for those who live on it. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 00:19, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
