Uroth

It's funny how things work out. I was actually looking for the Uroth myself the other day to write up a U species. I must have missed them but found the Th'iruckai later on in the book which I am now in the process of writing up. Great minds think alike. :D --Eyrezer 12:16, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Hey Man

Hey man, I just want to let you know that you forgot to add Appearances/Sources for Droid Hunt. :) JangFett Talk 01:54, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder, but I'm unsure what I did wrong. "Droid Hunt" is itself a source, since it's an RPG adventure. Can you clarify what I should do? ~ SavageBob 01:56, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Oh, it's part of an RPG, sorry man. Then possibly the article could use a ==External links== section, since it shouldn't need a App/Sources. How old is Droid Hunt? Not sure if the creator has an official website for the RPG. JangFett Talk 02:00, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
  • I see Ey added in a "See Also" section. Sorry for the confusion SavageBob, its been a long day :P JangFett Talk 02:01, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
  • No worries! It's pretty old, dating to before the Internet was very popular. I don't think West End Games even had a website. Hopefully it's a bit clearer now. ~ SavageBob 02:03, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Yes, thanks for clarification SavageBob :) JangFett Talk 02:04, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Caponata goes to the moon

Don't worry about the Treaty objection. It was a typo: Ua-Galactic Empire Treaty vs. Uaua-Galactic Empire Treaty, system vs. planet, article name vs. first mention in the body of the article] — But I wasn't sure if the typo was in the later or in the other. Eyrezer's last edit in treaty unified nomenclature, check it if you want.

It's too early in the morning here. I don't know if I'm expressing myself clearly.-Skippy Farlstendoiro 06:20, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

OK, thanks for the clarification. It could also go under Ua system-Galactic Empire treaty, I suppose. I'm not sure if there's precedent for when a treaty is system-wide. Thanks for your thoughts, as muddled as they may be! ~ SavageBob 00:34, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
  • Hey Bob, seeing as you have some PhotoShop skills, perhaps you would like to edit a few pictures for our Portfolio pages. Originally, Volemlock was making some nice icons for it, as you can see from the likes of the Drovian, Gotal, and Pau'an pics used on the FA page. Since then I've been grabbing the most suitable pic already on the Wook. If you were so inclined and wanted a break from writing, it might make our pages look prettier. --Eyrezer 05:09, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
    • Yeah, I noticed those and have had those heads on the back burner for a while. I'm about to move house, so I may not be able to manage more than some writing here and there for now, but it is something I intend to get to sooner or later. ~ SavageBob 06:34, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

Ultimate Alien Anthology

Hi SavageBob,

I have a favour to ask! As one of our esteemed species gurus, I assume you are in possession of the Ultimate Alien Anthology, published in 2003? I was wondering if you could aid me by consulting the entry on the Yuuzhan Vong and informing me if a Yuuzhan Vong goddess called Yun-Ne'Shel is mentioned? If so, I would be even more grateful if you could transcribe the relevant sentence or so for me.

Thanks!

-- Harrar (Cut the comm chatter) 14:55, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Yep, you're in luck! There's a sidebar on p. 192 that includes this tidbit: "Yun-Ne'Shel, the Modeler, is perhaps the most benevolent of their gods, promoting innovation, gentility, and most commonly fertility, asking for no sacrifices in return." ~ SavageBob 15:17, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

Hoover

Hey Bob. Were you thinking of writing up Hoover? I just aw your edits on its appearance list. --Eyrezer 10:05, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

Actually, no; I saw that you had asked about the species on a few pages that I've got watchlisted, so I did a search for the critters on Amazon.com and came up with a few sources no one had mentioned yet. I figured I'd add them to the sources page so you'd know to keep an eye out for them! ~ SavageBob 14:20, October 19, 2009 (UTC)
Cheers! I think the only one I'd missed was The Complete Visual Dictionary, which should have been obvious! I hadn't ordered them though, so that job got easier! Actually the CSWE coverage is interesting as it has entries for both Attark and Hoover - but treats them both as individuals! Under Hoover, it has "Although little known, apparently his species was named Hoover, too." That makes me wonder whether I should treat the coverage of Hoovers at Jabba's Palace as one or two individuals... I had forgotten about Ranat by the way, so now fixed. Finally, you need to get a Species GAN up quick. We there are racing to see who will get #50 :P --Eyrezer 22:17, October 19, 2009 (UTC)

/ˈfəʊn ˈhəʊm/

I've studied linguistics years ago; else I would not have dared to edit your change without a talk. I failed the phonetics exam, but I eventually passed it in September.

Why /th/ is not a phoneme? Mostly because a phoneme must have an unambiguous relation with the sound it represents, which is the idea of a phonetic transcription. The problem with /th/ is that it is not one phoneme, but two. You can write a full word in phonemes: /hot/. You can write several words: "Hot ham" /hotham/. /th/ represents two different sounds, one after the other.

The usual way to represent phonemes is using the symbols of the IPA (I think it meant International Phonetic Alphabet), which are perfect for most European languages; when you read something between slashes, IPA symbols are assumed by default. In that case, /th/ would mean "hot ham", not "thin". So, lowercase theta.

Do you see my point of view? --Skippy Farlstendoiro 21:45, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

Space Worrt

I'm queuing the Worrts for later analysis, but I'll eventually deal with the Space Worrt, either as a sub-class/race of Worrt or as an article itself. Atlas population map

I've noticed you have added several specific population values on the basis of the the Galactic Population map on pg. 17 of The Essential Atlas. Note that the map shows "population measured by average per inhabited planet per sector, with actual populations for key systems." Other than those key systems, the map doesn't tell us anything about the population of a specific world, other than what the average population of worlds in its vicinity average out to. jSarek 22:32, December 12, 2009 (UTC)

No, Florn appears as a green dot on the map, so we know the population of that world. ~ SavageBob 23:16, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
Shimia is there too, so I added a blurb to Pacithhip. I'll try to be sure not to add that info unless a specific system appears on the population map, so apologies if I've messed up somewhere or another. ~ SavageBob 23:19, December 12, 2009 (UTC)
So it is; I don't know how I missed Florn getting its own dot. I'll blame the lighting in this room; feel free to revert me on that one. That said, I was also thinking about cases like the Quor'sav, which I had to reword to better match what the map actually tells us. jSarek 13:03, December 13, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, on species like Quor'sav, I think it's much more questionable whether it's worth mentioning that map at all. I think from here on out, I'll only mention those systems that get their own dot. We can ditch the line in Quor'sav probably. ~ SavageBob 17:48, December 13, 2009 (UTC)

Florn

Hey SavageBob, first off, let me say I wasn't trying to be confrontational, though it probably did come across that way. I actually second guessed my writing at the time! So I'm sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to (just a stickler for grammar and I've had a lot of bad editing wars on here). Second, yeah, the aliens on here are at times drastically underrepresented and ignored... just like in many Star Wars products. Does it annoy you as well that most of the things out there are so humanocentric? --Demos Traxen 04:20, December 13, 2009 (UTC)

Underwater Dwellers

Hey SavageBob, if Clode Rhoden, Madam Rhoden, and Buck aren't Underwater Dwellers, then how come this "Dulok" seen in Star Wars Clone Wars is considered a Dulok. Who says he/she is a Dulok? Reptilian avian humanoids

As this is getting difficult, please give me a manipulative appendage here so that maybe together we can reach a wording that pleases everyone and at the same time respects all the sources. Here's the facts:

  • Jedi Academy Sourcebook: The Vors are delicate hollow-bone reptilian avian humanoids who ride the winds on lacy wings"
  • The Essential Guide to Alien Species: "Vors are hollow-boned, winged, reptilian creatures (...)".
  • Ultimate Alien Anthology: "The Vors are a peaceful avian species"; also "Vors are reptilian avians".
  • Dark Apprentice: "The Vors, hollow-boned humanoids with a rack..."
  • Dark Tide II: Ruin: "The Vors themselves were a humanoid species of mammalian stock. Hollow-boned, ..."
  • IMHO, avians (and as such birds) belong to the class Aves and as such are archosauria, which in turn are reptiles, so every avian is a reptile, but I know I'm not majority here.

I propose this: Vors were antropomorphic<JASB><DA> reptilian<JASB><EGA><UAA> avians<JASB><UAA> related to mammals.<DT2> What do you think? Skippy Farlstendoiro 19:07, January 20, 2010 (UTC)

This is a toughie, isn't it? We can disregard the sources that only classify them as "humanoid," since that's a body type, not a classification. That leaves us with three votes for reptilian, two for avian, and one for mammalian. I think you could go with something like, "Vors were a species of humanoids with avian, mammalian, and reptilian characteristics.<reph summarizing the debacle and citing specific statements to specific sources.> I'm hesitant to favor any one interpretation above the others, or to call them anthropomorphic, since they implies more than just body shape. What do you think? I faced a similar issue with Quor'sav, and I think this is how I handled it. ~ SavageBob 00:46, January 21, 2010 (UTC)

Star Wars Insider 83

In response to your message, I don't know about whether or not R3-M3 (then given the name R3-O1) was actually mentioned, as I don't have Star Wars Insider 83. R3-M3's bio on Yodapedia stated that last year, and that's where I got what I believed to be confirmation of the droid's being mentioned.
