CVI donation

Hey Jonathan. I wanted to let you know that I sent in a donation for the CVI Internet costs. I'm not sure if my name appears since it's an old e-mail address connected to PayPal, so, if not, the e-mail address that will display is jedimasterbac@hotmail.com. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 14:50, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you! Your name showed up without a problem. I was not expecting people to make donations this big. So far I've gotten a $30, $50, and $150 donations. I was expecting no more than $5 and $10 donations. This is a huge help. :D —MJ— War Room Thursday, August 16, 2012, 14:54 UTC
Happy to help. Glad you're almost at your goal. : ) - Brandon Rhea(talk) 14:56, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

Wookieepedia is not a chat board or a social network. If you have a question that pertains to Wookieepedia itself, not just Star Wars, you're welcome to ask it, but otherwise please do not attempt to socialize on my talk page. Thank you. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 00:21 UTC
actually it's a kinda of a chat board because other users talk with other users all the time on this wiki so if you say it's not then your wrong --205.144.218.234 20:13, August 28, 2012 (UTC)
I stand by my previous statement. "[O]ther users talk with other users all the time" because they're talking about Wookieepedia itself. That does not mean you can use this as a chat board. If you don't have anything to say about Wookieepedia itself, then stop posting here. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers Wednesday, August 29, 2012, 02:27 UTC
actually if you say wookieepedia is not all about star wars than your actually wrong because wookieepedia is all about star wars thats the hole reason it was made --205.144.218.234 02:42, August 30, 2012 (UTC)
1) Please place replies to existing conversations in the relevant section, not all the way at the bottom of the page after other discussions. 2) Wookieepedia is all about documenting Star Wars in an encyclopedic fashion, not simply discussing it like you are trying to do. To that end, discussion on Wookieepedia is generally limited to advancing that singular purpose. Do not bother me here again as my point has been made several times. If you continue to argue, I will ask an administrator to intervene. —MJ— Holocomm Thursday, August 30, 2012, 02:54 UTC

Hi MJ. I just sent through a donation that should take the total up to the $300 mark assuming I did it right. Let me know if there are any issues with it :). Cheers, grunny@wookieepedia:~$ 02:54, August 19, 2012 (UTC)

Kallil-virus

Hey there MJ. I know you're taking a break, but whenever you get this, I'd say that the tidbit on the Wook article being the basis for Kallil-virus's CSWE entry would be "relevant to the topic of the article itself." The content of the entry was clearly taken from the Wook, which means we had a hand in canonizing aspects of this part of Star Wars. The only difference between a situation like that and, say, Karpyhyn clairifying the ending of Darth Bane 3 or How Sian Jeisel was named is the Wook's involvement, and that shouldn't automatically disqualify the information being put in the article on the influenced subject. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 06:35, August 21, 2012 (UTC)

OK, I hadn't thought about it that way. Feel free to put it back in, but make sure the connection to Kallil-virus itself is clear (i.e. the focus should be on explaining how it was canonized, not just saying "it was copied from here"). Also be sure to give context on the term Wookieepedia, as it's possible that people may view the article on another site or even on a printed version without knowing what Wookieepedia is. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers Tuesday, August 21, 2012, 10:42 UTC
It seems I remembered the revision wrong. The CSWE added the fact that it was a virus to our article's words, so we canonized nothing. I removed the mention again. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 02:42, August 24, 2012 (UTC)

Hero of Tython review

Hey, MJ, I have a whammy of a copy-edit request when you get back: User:Cade Calrayn/Project Hero/Hero of Tython. You can just ignore the linking errors and redlinkins, since I'll be completely relinking the article when it's entirely finished, but I'd greatly appreciate the help if you could give it a copy-edit. Feel free to take your time doing so and even getting to it, as I know you might still be busy from the aftermath of CVI, but thanks in advance. Cade Calrayn GalacticRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit 14:46, September 11, 2012 (UTC)

I'll get to it, but no guarantees as to when. I'm home as of yesterday evening, but I will need a few days to catch up on everything I've missed online, plus my first priority on the Wook needs to be updating Wedge Antilles. So it'll likely be at least a full week, if not two or three, before I can tackle this. —MJ— War Room Wednesday, September 12, 2012, 19:00 UTC
Absolutely no problem. I still have Voss, the Valiant, Corellia, the battle with the Emperor, and part of the P&T to finish, but the first two-thirds are done. Take all of the time you need. Cade Calrayn GalacticRepublicEmblem-Traced-TORkit 19:12, September 12, 2012 (UTC)

Insider

Hello good sir, do you have Insider 122 or 91? I am looking to see if Cassio Tagge is mentioned in those Insiders. His brother, Orman, is mentioned, and I wonder if they threw in a Cassio or "General Tagge" mention in there. Thanks, JangFett (Talk) 15:11, September 16, 2012 (UTC)

  • 91: Orman is mentioned to be "[t]he head of a prestigious Imperial family"; nothing else. Your call on whether that counts as an indirect mention.
  • 122: Merely a short ad for an Omnibus. No hint of a mention of Cassio.

Wording adjustment at the species/subspecies CT

Hey, MJ, just wanted to give you a heads up that I adjusted the wording slightly on Vote 2 of Forum:CT:Species and subspecies. I realized that there area few species for which we know of subspecies, but for which we don't know of a "baseline" version. To clarify that these species are not covered by that particular vote, I changed an example (from Horansi to Arkanian) and added this extra text:

  • NB: This vote only concerns species that have a "baseline" version, from which subspecies can be identified (e.g. Trandoshan and Arkanian). It does not cover species for which there is no "baseline" version (e.g., Horansi and Nikto). Those articles will continue to list all appearances and sources for the subspecies together.

In other words, if any of the separate Source/Appearance listing voting options wins, we won't apply it to species like the Nikto, for whom we don't have a baseline version. Sorry for altering thing like this, but I wanted to make sure you about the change since you've already voted. Cheers, ~SavageBOB sig 11:20, October 3, 2012 (UTC)

No problem. Without looking at the whole proposal again, it makes sense. Thanks for letting me know. —MJ— Holocomm Wednesday, October 3, 2012, 17:27 UTC

RfUR, abuse filters, and others' concerns over such things...

I have spoken to Culator and he is afraid that once you gain access to the abuse filters, that you'll attempt to alter them in some manner. He cites a Mofference from February as evidence. I had told him that in a conversation during CVI, you expressed no interest in messing around with such matters. Could you perhaps ease some of Culator's concern, as this has become a big issue with him on IRC and my attempts to ease it have failed. Thanks. :) Trak Nar Ramble on 04:59, October 16, 2012 (UTC)

Template Indirect Appearance

According to Forum:SH:Template Indirect Appearance. The consensus appears to be deletion for the template. I was wondering if you'd take a look at the page and confirm that's the consensus before I mark it for deletion. DarthRevan1173 Revan Headshot (Long live Lord Revan) 05:42, October 24, 2012 (UTC)

Consensus for deletion needs to be achieved via the trash compactor. The SH discussion is unclear about what some people want and has insufficient input (Wookieepedia:Consensus requires a minimum of ten votes); also the SH in general is not meant to determine consensus on anything. As at least some people expressed some measure of support for it, it wouldn't be a candidate for speedy deletion either. I'll put it in the trash compactor and see what happens there. —MJ— Training Room 18:28, October 24, 2012 (UTC)

An Image I am unsure how to source

Hello and congrats on the semi-recent promotion, I saw this image here (you may need to login your facebook)and I just wondered if the SW:TCW facebook page is considered canon, and also I typically stay in the | DC wikia so adding images here is alot different. I guess if you find it to be Canon maybe and you find the time you could add it for me if its not to much trouble. Thanks! SHINJI-hirako95 (talk) 19:55, November 1, 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I'm not certain we need that image; do you have a specific article you intend to use it on? We don't upload images just to have images; they are expected to be used somewhere on the wiki, and unused images are regularly deleted. Also, I haven't watched any TCW episodes yet this season, so I don't even know what that image is depicting and thus am reluctant to upload it myself if I can't describe it. You might be able to get better assistance by talking to CC7567, who is our resident TCW expert and also works with images more often than I do. —MJ— Training Room 00:11, November 2, 2012 (UTC)
Okay thats fine, but how it COULD be used if you decide to use it, is to put it in the episode gallery or even crop the pictures to give the imageless younglings (all but two of them have no pictures) a main image for their page. the picture is of the jedi younglings from the episode The Gathering and its a production shot showing each of the younglings that will appear in said episode. The FB page recently posted | this one, which I like better and it is an actual screen shot from the episode. whichever (if any) you choose, both pictures have a nice full body shot of currently image-less characters and could be used for main pictures on the younglings pages. Thanks SHINJI-hirako95 (talk) 14:33, November 2, 2012 (UTC)
First off, we can't just "put it in the episode gallery" because we don't do galleries at all (they stretch the boundaries of fair use too far). That leaves your second suggestion as the only option, and frankly I have practically zero skill in editing images, even simple cropping. You would need to contact someone who's more able to work with images such as CC7567 or JMAS for that. I also don't know if there might be better options within the episode for each character; we don't have to rely on screenshots released by Lucasfilm as our image gurus can get a screenshot of any frame of any episode, and even if that frame is the best, we can probably get higher resolution by taking the screenshot ourselves. So once again, I have to refer you to CC7567 or JMAS. Image work is simply not my field. :) —MJ— Holocomm 17:08, November 2, 2012 (UTC)
Okay well, thank you for answering. and I see your point and agree. sorry for any inconvenience. And thank you for being patient and polite. SHINJI-hirako95 (talk) 17:23, November 2, 2012 (UTC)

Interview

Here we go! Sorry for the delay. I think you said that you wanted this on your talk page. Sorry for the delay. Feel free to answer in as many or as few words as you'd like, and let me know if you want any images included. I have eight questions for you and eight for Cal. Menkooroo (talk) 08:12, November 2, 2012 (UTC)

  1. What kind of role do you think you've traditionally played on the site and in the community?
  2. How would you describe your first two weeks in the hotseat? Has anything about your Wookieepedia-ing changed?
  3. Same question I asked Cal --- what, if anything, would you have come up with to oppose your nomination for adminship?
  4. Tell us about your experience representing the Wook at Celebration VI. Yeah, it's a vague question. Be creative.
  5. What part does Wookieepedia play in the broader world of Star Wars?
  6. How do you think the upcoming sequel trilogy will affect that role? Or any future development, for that matter?
  7. Is there anything about the site that you'd like to see changed/improved upon?
  8. Do you have any advice for new and aspiring editors, or any closing words in general?
I actually said email. :P So I'll send you the answers that way within the next day or two. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 17:13, November 2, 2012 (UTC)

Star Wars Insider 84 info

Hey, I'm trying to get access to the entire text of Republic HoloNet News Special Inaugural Edition 16:5:241 from Insider 84 and wondering if you have a way to do that? Please let me know, cheers! Coruscantfan (Talk) 20:46, November 4, 2012 (UTC)

I have it, but it's eight pages long, which is too much for me to type everything out. It would be better if you can tell me what article(s) you're working on, so I can type up just the relevant info. Alternatively, you could find someone with both the issue and a scanner that would be willing to scan all eight pages and email them to you. —MJ— Council Chambers 20:53, November 4, 2012 (UTC)
Long term I'll see if I can find someone but for now, I'm working on the Judicial Department article so any information I'm looking for would include Senate Guard, Sector Rangers, Coruscant Security Force, Senate Bureau of Intelligence, and any other law enforcement/intelligence service during that time frame. Eventually I'm also looking at the Imperial Security Bureau and how that all came about. Specifically, I'm looking for all information regard to what specific Republic agencies/departments were reorganized and what new agencies were created as well as people who are mentioned as part of those agencies? My guess would be "COMPOR Reorganized", "Sixty-Three Senators Arrested in Collusion With Jedi Insurgency", "Updated: The Arrests; Is Your Senator A Traitor?", "Citizens Urged to Register For Their Safety", "The New Empire: How Can You Help?" would have the best info, though that's just a guess. Let me know if you need further details. Thanks a lot! Coruscantfan (Talk) 21:07, November 4, 2012 (UTC)
OK, I'll start taking a look at it within the next day or two. You'll probably get the info by email, since I'd rather not post such large excerpts publicly due to fair use concerns. —MJ— War Room 02:05, November 5, 2012 (UTC)
Sounds good, thanks! Preferred email would be [redacted] Coruscantfan (Talk) 02:08, November 5, 2012 (UTC)

Guess what? I was able to get access to a scanner tonight. So I scanned all eight pages into a single PDF file, which is in the process of uploading to Gmail right now. It ended up quite big at around 20 MB and I don't know how to reduce the file size, so apologies if downloading it takes some time. I'll send it out as soon as it finishes uploading. Let me know if you need anything else. —MJ— War Room 05:00, November 9, 2012 (UTC)
Awesome, I got the email and the pdf downloaded beautifully. Thank you very very much for the effort! Coruscantfan (Talk) 18:56, November 9, 2012 (UTC)

KB housekeeping

I brought up the Mon Calamari issue. Are there any similar threads where we discuss or try to figure out the complement/crew number of any of the universe's ships?

P.S.: Why is my signature still appearing red when I'm officially signed in?--Gunman6 (talk) 02:17, November 12, 2012 (UTC)

I can answer your first question better if you can give me the title of the deleted thread, since I've deleted a lot of threads over the past two hours. You can find it in the deletion log. As to your signature, the red means that your user page doesn't exist. It will turn blue when the page is created. —MJ— War Room 02:21, November 12, 2012 (UTC)
Title of deleted thread: "First Mon Calamari Cruiser Destroyed by Death Star II?"
Basically, I was just trying to get an exact number of all the ship casualties during the outer space battle of Endor. --Gunman6 (talk) 06:13, November 12, 2012 (UTC)
OK, that works. The thread was deleted simply because no one had bothered to reply, which made it pointless to archive it (only threads that contained useful discussion and answers that complied with KB rules were archived in that spree; all others were deleted). Your question seems to comply with KB rules, so you're more than welcome to recreate the thread with your question in hopes of getting a response this time. For your benefit, here's the exact original text of what you posted:
:Hello there, I'm from the Memory-Alpha and 24 Wikias and decided I could lend a hand in helping determing other ship details. I have studied the Rogue Squadron games and Return of the Jedi numerous times and was wondering if anyone has followed up on the exact ship that was first destroyed by the second Death Star.
I understand what the second cruiser is (i.e. Liberty) but was hoping that one might be able to dig up something else from the LucasArts/LucasFilm LTD library as I know there's an exact cruiser like this in ROTJ: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/MC80_Liberty_type_Star_Cruiser

Also, is there an exact tally of all the casualties from the films, games and books? I could help out with the ships lost portion if needed. Peace. ;)

Let me know if you need anything else. —MJ— Jedi Council Chambers 07:07, November 12, 2012 (UTC)

Deletion

Why did you delete my Wookieepedia clan page, I said to leave a comment if I wasn't allowed. Unsigned comment by Cthetheslayer (talk • contribs)

  1. You created it in the article namespace, which is for encyclopedic content only and is never to be used for discussion. Therefore it needed to be moved to the proper place or deleted immediately.
  2. Wookieepedia is not a general-purpose message board, meaning that there is no proper place on Wookieepedia for it and therefore it needed to be deleted immediately.
  3. You can't delete pages. Only administrators can delete pages. Therefore asking you to delete it would have been pointless.

Doan and image

Hi! First, about Doan (sun), I'm not quite sure which entry it was under, but I'm sure that there are more appearances, and the most important it's verified now. About TerrenceCarson.jpg, thats a real image about Terrence Carson, so I don't think I should correct the link. Also if you search on the name of him, you will find this picture at several sites. But I will look for the full link, if it is needed. Thanks for pointing it out. Sincerely, --XXLVenom998 (talk) 20:17, November 16, 2012 (UTC)

The full source link is absolutely required in all cases. Failure to provide the full link can and will result in the image being deleted as unsourced. Also, I spoke too soon on Doan, somebody else reverted you on the basis that the ERC only mentions the planet and not the sun. —MJ— Council Chambers 20:24, November 16, 2012 (UTC)

Photo Permission

There are several articles that do with the game Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures that need a revelant or a cannonalogical photo but, there are no kinds of those photos what so ever. I was wondering if I may have special permission to upload good quality screen shots on to the pages. These pictures may be against Wookieepedia Image Policy but, there are no images that agree with this policy. Thank You. --Superdadsuper (talk) 21:42, November 17, 2012 (UTC)

A screenshot from the game would meet the image policy, so that's not an issue here. The key thing is to make sure that you upload the image properly, which means that you must follow the instructions at Special:Upload and provide a proper source and license tag. Failure to do that is why your previous uploads were deleted. —MJ— Comlink 22:32, November 17, 2012 (UTC)
