Categorization of Reentry Thruster image

Hey KianJ, sorry to bother you. Just a quick note about File:Reentry thruster.png: Seems it got filed in Category:Animated images instead of Category:3D CGI animation images, which would be the correct location. Category:Animated images is for literally animated (moving) images, like animated GIFs. (I wouldn't take up any of your time with this, but my attempt to be WP:BOLD and make the correction myself was thwarted by the contribution-threshold protection. Sorry again! That's a good question, and one I was thinking about some.

I'm not sure the name of the category is an issue, it's more the purpose, and how it (along with the other type categories) interacts with Template:Information.

The template docs indicate that {{Information|category type=}} accepts multiple categories, but I don't get the impression it's used that way as often as it could be. (Even File:OmegaTechTurn.gif, for example, lists it as |category type=Category:Animated images instead of |category type=Category:3D CGI animation images, even though it is in fact both of those things.)

So with Category:Animated images being applicable in addition to other type categorizations, I guess the question is whether the fix is purely social (users just need to be informed that they can list multiple categories for |category type=, like they're already used to doing for |category subject=), or if there's a technical fix.

On the technical side, it might be more convenient for users if the template were to instead gain a new boolean parameter, perhaps {{Information|animated=yes/no}}. (Or (truthy-value) vs. (blank), more realistically; there's no reason to ever bother with an explicit |animated=no.) Setting |animated=[yes|true|on|1|...] would add the file to Category:Animated images, separate from and in addition to any |category type= value(s). (Though a user could certainly still list the category there, instead, if they wished.)

I get the impression Wookieepedia has a bias towards keeping template parameter counts low (though I could be mistaken). So I'm unsure how an addition like that, especially for a simple boolean flag, would be received. I'd certainly anticipate (and even sympathize with) slippery-slope objections, worrying that it could lead to silliness like {{Information|subject han solo=yes|subject boba fett=|subject kylo ren=yes|etc.}}. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think we can all agree that nobody wants that.

But to me, at least, |animated=yes still feels reasonable since "is animated" strikes me as a uniquely fundamental property nearly any image may or may not have. (Even the ones in Category:Vector graphics: SVG animation is a rarely-used part of the standard.) FeRDNYC (talk) 08:13, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the edits on Omega. Just here to let you know, I think it's better to expand the biography cohesively instead of adding an incomplete bio and adding the next one.
