The Mandalorian

Hey Andykatib. Good job on keeping things related to The Mandalorian updated. However, I read the plot summary you added on Chapter 5: The Gunslinger and it is way too play-by-play. As the heading says, it's supposed to be a plot summary. Including details such as "The hangar bay is eerily silent" and recalling dialogue in the format of prose is way too much. Please keep this in mind. 1358 (Talk) 20:51, December 9, 2019 (UTC)

  • Thanks very much for your feedback and advice. I tend to do a "word by word" transcription. I know it helps with writing character and event articles but too much prose is also not good. What advice and suggestions do you have for addressing these issues? Andykatib 21:41, December 9, 2019 (UTC)
    • In general, I would avoid sentences that without any sort of action or event, i.e. sentences that describe dialogue or the environment etc. Vital dialogue can usually be placed into a sentence as a clause; for example: "He introduces himself to the Mandalorian as Toro Calican, telling the Mandalorian to relax. Calican displays a holoprojector image of a female human bounty, telling her that he picked up this bounty before he left the Mid Rim." could be rewritten as "Introducing himself as Toro Calican, he displays a holoprojector image of a female human bounty that he picked up before he left the Mid Rim." My version has the exact same information but in a single sentence and much shorter format.
Of course, this is very general advice and sometimes it's not possible to condense everything, but I would definitely recommend double-checking sentences that describe dialogue and reconsider if it adds anything to the plot summary. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers, 1358 (Talk) 18:11, December 10, 2019 (UTC)
      • Thanks, Xd1358 for the advice. Will condense sentences in the future and double check. This sounds like a good approach. Andykatib 20:07, December 11, 2019 (UTC)

Backup links

The Wookieepedia Sourcing policy (see Rule 10) requires backup links be added for any external link citation, such as here. Every time a citation template is used on an article without adding a backup link, the page gets added to this category, which as you can see is massive in size. All 11,000 of those articles will need to be fixed eventually, mostly through manual, rather than bot, labor. Please go back and add a backup link to the reference you added the Jake Lloyd article, and remember to add backup links for any external link citation you add in the future. Thank you. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 00:12, February 1, 2020 (UTC)

    • Hi Toprawa, thanks will remember to do that in the future. Will used Internet Wayback Machine to retrieve them. Andykatib 00:19, February 1, 2020 (UTC)

Freemakers "Fanfiction"

That was no fanfiction that I uploaded on the Freemakers' page. Zander's wife and Rowan's future were confirmed by the people who wrote "The Freemakers Adventures" but I will add a source next time. Unsigned comment by TheLoner (talk • contribs)

  • Hi The Loner,

Please, let me know the source. Is it an interview or an article? Please always remember to cite your edits. See Wookieepedia:Sourcing. I had a look at the LEGO Star Wars: All-Stars episodes where the Freemakers appear including "Yub Nub!" and "The Power at Jakku". While they did mention that the Freemakers fought at the Battle of Jakku, Zander Freemaker fathering Moxie Freemaker, and Kordi Freemaker becoming a Senator in the New Republic, they didn't mention anything about Rowan Freemaker returning to Alistan Nor and become a Jedi Master there. None of the sources that Becky Smoochenbacher mention her marrying Zander. She was his love interest but nothing more. If you have a source that supports these facts, please share it with me. Thanks. Backup

Hello Andykatib. You recently created Leia Organa - A Princess, A General, A Mentor, thank you for that. I see that Tope already reminded you about backup links last month, so I just want to notify you that you are also required to provide them for SWKidsYoutube template (just add |archiveurl= with the archive link). Can you please do it for your recent addition to Wookieepedia? If you need any help, or have any question about this, check this page. Thanks! NanoLuukeCloning facility 10:52, March 21, 2020 (UTC)

  • Hi NanoLuuke, thanks very much for getting in touch with me. Will do it after church this afternoon. While I know how to do the backup links for articles, I don’t how to do it for videos. But will check the missing archive links page. Andykatib 19:38, March 21, 2020 (UTC)
    • All archive links are produced the same way, either using archive.org. You simply copy the url in the search field, and let it do its magic. Of course, it can be tricky, and in lot of case needs some tinkering. If a link doesn't exist, on archive.org, it will ask you if you want to create one. For the case of the GoA Leia video, it's pretty simple, since a link was created yesterday. Maybe it was when you checked. Anyway, the page was saved, but not the video (there a text saying "Sorry, the Wayback Machine does not have this video (UrzPbPnE3Vg) archived (or not indexed yet)."). I'm not sure about the specific of archive.org, but I believe it will be saved later and will be accessible on the archived page, as it is for other video. I will just add the archive link to the page, but thank you for checking the project ;) . --NanoLuukeCloning facility 12:53, March 22, 2020 (UTC)

Backup repository

Hello Andykatib. I see that you've been working on some backup for SWKidsYoutube, and I wanted to thank you for that. However, I see that you're doing them page per page, which can be a slow process. You can see on the project page that we created a repository where we can add links that way: {{citation template without backup link}} {{citation template with backup link}}, so ecksbot would later change all instance of the first template into the second, complete, one. Furthermore, 1358 created two list: List of SWKidsYoutube instances (rendered version). Those list are meant to be use by removing the link we add to the repository, so we can be sure that they're all accounted for. That way you only have to provide the right template only once for each link, and the bot will do the heavy lifting. If you have some time, could you double check the links you modified recently and add them on the repository/removed them on the two other lists? Don't hesitate to reach my talk page if you have any question ;) . --NanoLuukeCloning facility 11:45, March 29, 2020 (UTC)

  • You can forget about that, 1358 took care of all of it. The bot will update the citation template in a few day ;) . --NanoLuukeCloning facility 13:28, March 29, 2020 (UTC)
    • Thanks so much, it’s good that we are working as a team. Andykatib 18:34, March 30, 2020 (UTC)

Clone Wars summaries

No problem at all, thanks for finishing it and great job! I’m fine with several people collaborating on writing the summaries, so go for it for the next episodes, I’ll generally just start them if it looks like no one else is but feel free to pick up where I leave off or overwrite/rewrite anything, I’m not fussed. - Canley (talk) 10:29, April 24, 2020 (UTC)

  • Hi Canley, thanks for your team spirit and optimism. Will be happy to work with you. Look forward to the next two episodes of the Clone Wars. Andykatib 10:41, April 24, 2020 (UTC)

Templates

Hi, please format templates like "Cite web" correctly, and use the correct template when citing information (like this for example). Thank you. UberSoldat93 ClanMudhornSignet-Redemption (talk) 10:43, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

  • Thanks, will remember to do that. Kind regards. Andykatib 10:58, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

Twitter screenshot

Hi there, Andy. Could you please upload a screenshot of the tweet you sourced on Mary Holland's page and add it here? Thanks. RattsT (talk) 03:53, June 14, 2020 (UTC)

AD-3 biography

Hi there Andy. I've noticed your addition of a biography section to AD-3 and thought I'd let you know that we're not treating the game show segments of JTC as canonical. So whereas we can say AD served Kelleran Beq, we can't say that she took part in the Jedi trials. RattsT (talk) 10:29, August 15, 2020 (UTC)

  • Hi Ratts, thanks for getting in touch. I wasn't very sure how to incorporate information about the characters' personality and traits into the articles given Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge's non-Canon status. I could raise the matter at Senate Hall. Andykatib 11:46, August 15, 2020 (UTC)

Unreliable sources

I'm only noticing this a little late, but I just found out that you created the article for Mary Holland, in May, using Imdb and Wikipedia as references. Those are crowdsourced (community-driven) tertiary sources, same as Wookieepedia, and as such, are not reliable. You need primary/secondary sources, likes news articles, biography, etc. However, since Wikipedia use references too, you can check them out and reuses them (if you're certain they provide the correct information). --NanoLuukeCloning facility 15:38, August 21, 2020 (UTC)

  • Hi NanoLuuke, thanks for letting me know. Will find some suitable sources for the Mary Holland article this weekend. -- Andykatib 22:13, August 21, 2020 (UTC)

Broken refs

Just as an FYI, you have a couple of broken refs on your workspace page that are showing up in an error category. -- Sulfur (talk) 03:30, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

  • Hi Sulfur, thanks so much for letting me to know. Will fix it. --Andykatib 08:17, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

RE: This week

Sure, no problem. I'm not sure if I know a good way to extract an image from that video, sorry I can't be of help there. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 22:20, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

  • Okay no worries, will give it a try. User:Andykatib 22:40, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

Re: A small favour

Hi. The script error is due to the inclusion of {{Top}} on the template page. That can simply be removed. 1358 (Talk) 14:28, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

  • Hi Xd1358, thanks so much for your help. Will let Korey Daniel know. Andykatib 23:33, 25 May 2021 (UTC)

WookieeProject: Resistance

Hey there! I'm looking to contribute to WP: Resistance and was wondering if it'd be okay if I added a tab or two to the project's page to organize some info? NBDani (talk) 14:46, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

  • Hi NBDani, sure thing. Have stepped back from the leadership of WP: Resistance to focus on other areas. Feel free to join the group and make changes. Appreciate your interest. Andykatib 20:13, 26 September 2021 (UTC)

Rogue Squadron

Hi, please do not add leaked material to the wiki. Rogue Squadron's delay currently has not been officially confirmed by Lucasfilm themselves. UberSoldat93 ClanMudhornSignet-Redemption (talk) 01:45, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

  • Hi UberSoldat93, no worries. My apologies. Will wait for Lucasfilm to confirm things in the future. Andykatib 18:11, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Plot summaries

Once again, I must remind you that plot summaries are just that—summaries. While your efforts to add plot summaries are appreciated, please attempt to keep them more concise. I've rewritten part of your plot summary on Part I. It's impossible to point out what exactly is unnecessary detail, but as a rule of thumb, I would recommend rethinking every time you describe dialogue, particularly when it's many consecutive sentences of just dialogue being described. Minute details like actions that have little to no significance (like an eopie licking Kenobi's hand) are simply too play-by-play. Please take a look at my edits and keep this advice in mind in the future. Thanks. 1358 (Talk) 22:49, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

  • Hi Xd1358, thanks for getting in touch with me. I agree that I do get too carried away with details when it comes to writing film and TV episode plot summaries. I need to learn how to write more concisely and to the point. Will work on avoiding too much detail when working on Part II of the Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series tonight. Will read through your edits to get some ideas on what needs to go and what should stay. Andykatib 04:02, 28 May 2022 (UTC)

Formatting and spelling

Great job working on plot summaries, just wanted to note a few corrections. Per WP:MOS#Language American spellings are preferred (eg favourite->favorite artefact->artifact), and that per WP:MOS#Punctuation smart punctuation is prohibited (for example see this change). ThrawnChiss7 Mitth symbol Assembly Cupola 20:36, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

  • Hi ThrawnChiss7, thanks for the reminder. Will remember to use American spelling for the articles. Regarding smart punctuation, it is a bit tricky since one of my iPads’ keypads doesn’t allow me to switch out of smart punctuation. Any solutions? Andykatib 20:55, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
    • I'm no expert, but perhaps you could try and copy-paste the character " or ' and it would work? If that doesn't work, I don't think it's that big of a deal, but if there is a way you could type in "neutral" characters, that would be preferred per policy. ThrawnChiss7 Mitth symbol Assembly Cupola 21:08, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
      • Okay, will try the copy and paste. Cheers. Andykatib 21:38, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Hey Andy! For the thumbnails, I got them on the official site. Here it is! It's a bit of a hassle to dig through, but they're all there. Bonzane10 Sabine Starbird (holonet) 02:27, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Lucasfilm references

Pointing something your way: recently someone inquired here about several references used on Lucasfilm Ltd. Looked back in the edit history and saw most of their questions surrounded some of your edits from a few years ago seen here. Was wondering if you at all remember what these citations were; they need a book name or link or something, likely, since the person is somewhat right that a last name and page number isn't terribly helpful and wouldn't meet the standard of WP:ATT without that, so hoping you do recall.spookywillowwtalk 17:51, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
