Fear/icon
"The icons of the Empire are unmistakable: enormous arrowhead-shaped warships, swarming flat-winged starfighters, lumbering mechanical walkers, and the stark white armor of endless armies. These weapons of oppression are carefully engineered to strike terror into the hearts of would-be rebels, so the Empire wins by the threat of force alone". (Dawn of Rebellion). "Despite these flaws, the Imperial II a formidable warship, likely to inspire fear throughout the galaxy for years to come" (S&S) "In the depths of space, the vast arrowhead shape of an Imperial Star Destroyer symbolized the Empire's dominion of terror over the galaxy." (SotEaR) "Imperial Star Destroyers represented the physical embodiment of the Emporor's will throughout the galaxy. (BMF23) "The Empire uses the immense size of its military to intimidate its enemies. This makes Imperial Star Destroyers a huge success. (ency of fighters and other vehicles)
Other info
The angular, arrowhead silhouette of the Kuat Drive Yards destroyer casts a long shadow on the Imperial fleet, and has become an icon of galactic naval power. Other more specialized vessels mimic this looks, as it so easily inspires fear. Imperial doctine favors the construction of ever-larger warships, but the practicality of ruling over a varied galaxy requires tailored craft for specific applications. Nonetheless, unifying these ships with a similar aesthetic helps convey an essential message of Imperial rule,: there is nowhere to hide." (Dawn) "Though the sheer imposing size of the Imperial Star Destroyer makes it the preferred symbol of the navy, the ubiquitous TIE fighter is an unmistakeable contender" (Dawn)
"The stormtroopers fell in behind Tabor and the ensign as they braved the depths of the ship. Tabor had served aboard Star Destroyers even before they'd earned the name—during the darkest days of the Republic, when shipwrights used to building merchant vessels and gilded yachts had scrambled to learn the arts of war. He'd seen the ships evolve from overwrought behemoths barely able to power their frames to the greatest weapons in the Imperial fleet, each capable of transporting thousands of soldiers or laying waste to continents and orbital platforms. The Herald was one of the later designs, postdating Tabor's active service; though he knew its specifications, he didn't recognize the high-pitched hum of its engine or the droids that scurried among its data terminals. Nor did he recognize the path the ensign followed through the cavernous hallways and operations rooms. As they walked, the ensign kept up a polite but incessant patter, pointing out the ship's features—its complement of walkers, its updated turbolaser targeting systems—and making a point to inform Tabor where to find the officers' mess, the crew quarters, and the bridge. He related the ship's upgrades to triumphs in Tabor’s own career—"I'm sure that extra ten percent efficiency would have been useful at the Battle of Foerost!"
Rey's survival guide
"The turbolaser turrets of an Imperial Star Destroyer are hooked to large arrays of auxiliary power cells-just follow the power trunking. I don't mess with anything with the power core&mdashor anything related to the reactor&mdashbut conduits lead from it throughout the ship and can be salvaged. The bridge and the officer's quarters below it are good places to look for datapads, droids, comlinks and the like. Up near the bow you'll find liquid stores and holds for raw materials."
