Burin Kassal
- "We don't play that. Burin here's a card shark."
"The fact that I know the odds of any given outcome does not mean I cheat." - ―Calle Tharandon and Burin Kassal talking about sabacc
Burin Kassal was an individual who served as a pilot for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Kassal was a smuggler prior to joining the rebellion, and when he contemplated leaving the rebellion Calle Tharandon convinced him to stay.
Biography
Joining the rebellion
A male smuggler, Burin Kassal made a living hauling contraband. At one point during his smuggling career, he was hired by a member of the Whiphid species to smuggle an adrenal implant out of the Corporate Sector, but Burin kept the implant due to the Whiphid never paying up.
joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
As member of the Rebel Alliance, Kassal was present on[1] the moon[2] Yavin 4 during the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY. Soon after the battle and the destruction of the Death Star, rebel forces were ordered to evacuate the base before the Galactic Empire's forces arrived. Kassal boarded the GR-75 medium transport Freedom Fighter with Calle Tharandon. Aboard the ship, the rebels escaped into hyperspace and proceeded to make several hyperspace jumps to lose the Empire.[1]
Supply run
Hiding out in deep space near the planet Agamar, Kassal and Tharandon are put on a team with Commander Ares Ginn and a rebel squad tasked with extracting rebel operatives on Ord Mantell whose location had been compromised. Aboard CORT-327, a freighter, Ares Ginn introduced Burin Kassal and Calle Tharandon to the squad. Kassal, inputting astrogation data into the ship's navicomputer, made little indication towards the squad as Ginn informs them of Kassal's ability to avoid detection from Imperial patrol crafts.
With the squad impressed, Kassal stated that it is not hard once you know how their sensor arcs overlap as he guided the ship into hyperspace. Dropping out of hyperspace near Ord Mantell with an Imperial light cruiser in view, Burin informs the group that the Imperials dropped a new sensor net that proved too tight to get through. He then turned the ship around and suggested that they might be able to spoof the transponder and get through later. In the heat of the moment, the rebel squad open a maintenance panel and spoof the transponder immediately. With a false code transmitted, the group is allowed to land on the planet. Arriving at the safehouse, the group picked up the operative and the supplies they gathered before heading back to the Freedom Figher. Fleeing from inevitable retaliation on Ord Mantell, the Freedom Fighter took refuge in Ithorian space.
While aboard the Freedom Fighter, Burin Kassal played hintaro with Ares Ginn and Calle Tharandon inside a modular container that had been repurposed as a recreation room. Just as Ginn was leaving, they were joined by the rebel squad who sat down at the makeshift table. Calle then asked the squad if they know hintaro, to which they replied that they prefer sabacc. Calle then states that they do not play sabacc on account of Burin Kassal being a card shark, to which Kassal defends himself saying that just because he knew the odds of any outcome does not make him a cheater. Burin then gathered up the chance cubes and passed two to each player. Playing multiple rounds of hintaro, Burin eventually ran out of credits and decided to bet the adrenal implant he had kept. In one last double or nothing round, Burin rolled the dice and got a mediocre roll, but got a stronger roll on the re-roll. Despite this, a member of the squad managed to get a higher roll and won his implant.
Betrayal
One morning aboard the Freedom Fighter, Burin Kassal noticed Calle Tharandon leave the ship. Following in his own shuttle, Burin pursued Calle to the planet Felucia where he discovered an Imperial facility. After taking out a perimeter officer, Burin encountered Calle and realized his betrayal. Burin pleaded with Calle that he could still do the right thing and they could leave, but Calle stated that he betrayed the Rebellion, and they both knew what happens to traitors. Burin stated that no one knew it was him and that he could help him get a fresh start, but Calle merely stated that there will the war would have a winner and a loser, and that the winners get to keep their lives and he would not go back. Burin hung his head and expressed remorse for how everything went as he reached for his blaster, but before he could grab it, Calle shot him in the chest, killing him.
Personality and traits
Burin Kassal was an expert at slipping past Imperial patrol crafts. He was considered one of the best smugglers in the sector by Calle Tharandon.[1]

Behind the scenes
Burin Kassal appeared in the Star Wars: Imperial Assault companion app Legends of the Alliance, in the "Flight of the Freedom Fighter" campaign.
Alternate paths
This article assumes a specific path is taken in the campaign. Depending on the choices and success of the players, Burin Kassal's dialogue and story can change.
Ord Mantell
Upon first meeting Burin Kassal and learning that he is an expert at slipping past Imperial patrol crafts, the players are given the choice to say either "Impressive" or "Sounds like you've hauled some contraband." If they say the former, then Kassal comments on the relative ease of his skill. If they say the latter, Kassal states that he made enough to get by before making the same comment relating to the ease of evading Imperial sensors. When the group then arrives near Ord Mantell and realize the security is tighter than usual, the players are given two options, either keep an eye on the scopes and escape, or try to spoof the transponder immediately. If the players choose to watch the scopes and succeed, then they successfully help Burin guide the ship through the sensor net and they safely escape. If the players fail at watching the scope, then they are too late to warn Burin that he is flying too close to the sensor net, in which case Burin swings the ship around and quickly enters hyperspace. If the players choose to spoof the transponder and are unsuccessful, then they trip a BoSS security program, prompting Ares Ginn to tell Burin to get them out of here, escaping into hyperspace.
Hintaro
When the player's are asked if the know hintaro, they can reply that they do not know how to play, in which case Burin Kassal explains the rules of the game. The game then plays out where the players actively compete in the first and last round where the players can either have the highest roll, tie for highest roll, or not have the highest roll. The first round, Burin has the higher roll than Calle, so the players are against him. If they have the highest roll, then they win the pot of 50 credits. If they players tie with Burin, then they split the pot and each get 25 credits. If the players do not have the highest roll, then they do not win any credits. In the final round, Burin bets a case of adrenal implants and again the players can either tie, roll a higher roll, or roll a lower roll. The players win the implants if they have the higher roll, they give Burin his credits back if they have the lower roll, and if they tie, Burin states that it is hard to split an adrenal implant and decides to just give it to the squad.
Imperial spy
During the story, it is discovered that one of the crew members is a spy, which the captain has narrowed it down to either being Ares Ginn, Burin Kassal, or Calle Tharandon. One of the three characters is randomly selected to be the spy, and the player's are tasked with choosing one individual to keep an eye on.
If instead Burin Kassal is the spy and the players chose to keep an eye on a different character, then Burin murders Calle Tharandon or Ares Ginn depending on the character chosen by the players. The dialogue stays the same, only during this scenario either Calle or Ares is pleading with Burin. The rebel squad, who just witnessed the murder, are then spotted by patrolling stormtroopers who sound the alarm which causes Burin to run into the facility to safety.
If Burin is the spy and the players also chose to watch him, then he is only followed to Felucia by the rebel squad, and both Calle Tharandon and Ares Ginn survive. This scenario plays out almost identical to the previous scenario, only the rebels find him arguing to a stormtrooper before the rebels are spotted and Burin flees into the facility.
In the facility, a fight breaks out between the rebels and the Imperials
Innocent man
If either Ares Ginn or Calle Tharandon is the spy, and the players choose to keep an eye on Burin Kassal, then Burin is murdered by the spy on Felucia. Burin will notice the spy leave and follow him to the planet Felucia, where he will plead for the spy to do the right thing. The spy will eventually state that it is too late for him, and then shoot Burin before he is able to draw his blaster.
If Burin Kassal is not the spy, and the players do not choose to keep an eye on him, then he remains aboard the Freedom Fighter for the entirety of the ordeal.

Calle Tharandon
Calle Tharandon was an individual who served as a corporal for the Alliance Army. After the Evacuation of Yavin 4, he served aboard the GR-75 medium transport Freedom Fighter as quartermaster of the ship. While onboard, Tharandon got into a heated argument with Commander Ares Ginn over the need for power converters and the risks involved in acquiring them.[1]
Biography
Served aboard the Freedom Fighter as quartermaster of the ship.
While Captain Darpik went on a mission to Ord Mantell, Calle Tharandon hired goons to capture her and acquire her star map.
After his plan was thwarted by the rebel squad, Calle secretly took a ship to an Imperial facility on the planet Felucia, not realizing he was followed by Burin Kassal. Outside the facility, Burin knocked out a perimeter officer and confronted Calle, stating that it was not too late to do the right thing.
Personality and traits
- "You've got quite the memory"
"I don't want to brag. I do use a datapad sometimes" - ―A rebel trooper and Calle Tharandon
As quartermaster of the Freedom Fighter, Calle Tharandon he memorized the record of the ship's manifest, down to the last blaster pack, though he would still occasionally use a datapad.

Notes and references
Darpik sent on a mission to Ord Mantell too, gets captured by hired goons (Includes IG-88B). She thinks they've been betrayed. Just before getting captured, Burin Kassal (possibly randomized?) sent a message warning her that he detected an unauthorized signal sent from the Freedom Fighter to somewhere on the planet shortly after Darpik's shuttle departed. Darpik was carrying a star map containing the locations of many of the rebellion's safe harbors in this sector of space. (gotta check if any big differences if Darpik dies)
Squad goes to retrieve the star map, currently in imperial hands. (Gotta check if any big differences if squad fails to get map)
Darpik discussed the situation with alliance spies and discovered that one of the crew members is working for the empire. Suspects are Ares Ginn, Burin Kassal, and Calle Tharandon, each had the access and opportunity to commit the security breach.
Cam
Cam[4] was a clone trooper who served in Clone Sergeant Slick's squad during the Clone Wars. While on Christophsis, the squad came under attack from Separatist forces, causing them to flee up an elevator. At the top of the building, they stood their ground as they waited for an evacuation. During the fight, Cam was shot and killed by the T-series tactical droid TJ-55.[3]
Behind the scenes
Cam appeared as an unnamed clone in "The Hidden Enemy," the sixteenth episode of the first season of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series.[3] Star Wars: The Clone Wars The Complete Season One featured an unfinished animatic from the production of "The Hidden Enemy" episode. In the animatic, the clone who gets shot by TJ-55 is labeled with the name "Cam."[4]

Marsh
- "Whoa, whoa. Wait, wait. Scanners indicate incoming craft. Abort jump!"
- ―Marsh
Marsh was a clone trooper pilot who served in the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars.
Biography
Born on the planet Kamino, from the genetic template of bounty hunter Jango Fett,[1] the clone that would take on the name Marsh[5] was created to serve the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[1] Marsh served as a clone trooper pilot in the Republic Navy.[3]
Marsh co-piloted a Rho-class transport shuttle on route to Kamino to deliver clone trooper Tup. As the shuttle was about to make the jump to hyperspace, Marsh stated to abort the jump after the scanners indicated an craft was inbound. An HMP droid gunship ambushed the convoy and released buzz droids onto the shuttle. The droids destroyed the shuttle's cockpit windows, causing both pilots to be sucked into space and die.[3]
