Early years in the Empire
- "Form up. Now. Your masters are here."
"Masters? We have only one master. The Emperor."
"Times change, Eighth Brother" - ―The Eighth Brother and the Grand Inquisitor
The Terrelian Jango Jumper who would later become the Eighth Brother was once a Jedi of the Jedi Order,[5] an organization of Force-users affiliated with the Galactic Republic.[6] In 19 BBY, the Galactic Republic was reformed into the Galactic Empire, the Jedi were declared as traitors,[2] and the Inquisitorius was formed[7] to hunt Jedi.[5] That year,[8] the Terrelian Jango Jumper—now a member of the Inquisitorius with the title of Eighth Brother—was present in the sparring pits of the Inquisitorius Headquarters in the Works district on the[5] Core Worlds planet[1] Coruscant[5] when the Grand Inquisitor, a Pau'an that lead the Inquisitorius, accompanied the Sith Lords Darth Sidious and Darth Vader and to the sparring pit.[5] He[1] was sparring with the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister as Sixth Brother and Ninth Sister observed.[5]
The Eighth Brother sparred with the Sixth Brother after meeting Darth Vader, their new master.
The Grand Inquisitor joined the Eighth Brother and others in the pit as the Sith Lords remained observing from above. The Pau'an instructed the Inquisitors present to prepare to meet their masters. Confused, the Eighth Brother asserted their only master was the Emperor, Sidious. The Grand Inquisitor informed him of the change as the group lined up and stood at attention before the Dark Lords. The Inquisitors returned to their sparring, with the Eighth Brother pairing off with the Sixth Brother.[5] Vader trained the Inquisitors[9] in combat, including the Eighth Brother on one occasion when he battled the Terrelian Jango Jumper along with the Grand Inquisitor, Fifth Brother, Sixth Brother, and Seventh Sister.[10]
Sometime between in 19 BBY and 18 BBY,[11] the Eighth Brother, along with the Fourth Sister, Sixth Brother, and Tenth Brother, accompanied Vader to the sparring pit as the Fifth Brother and the Pkorian Iskat Akaris, another Inquisitor, were sparring. The two ended their duel as Vader approached and Vader requested Akaris to test her lightsaber with him. The Inquisitors, including Eighth Brother, observed Vader's test of Akaris, which left the Pkorian's hand needed medical attention. She observed the Inquisitors that had accompanied Vader, and recognized the Eighth Brother as a Terrelian Jango Jumper. She felt that any of the present Inquisitors would kill her to advance themselves. Eighth Brother would duel Akaris in the pit on at least one occasion.[4]
Spun too close to the sun
In 14 BBY,[12] Eighth Brother was present in the common room of the Inquisitorius Headquarters with the Grand Inquisitor; Second Sister; Fifth Brother; Seventh Sister;[13] Iskat Akaris, now with the title of Thirteenth Sister; and the Inquisitor Tualon Yaluna after the Fifth Brother, Thirteenth Sister, and Yaluna returned from a successful mission with Vader.[4] The Eighth Brother mingled about the room while the Thirteenth Sister and Yaluna conversed over dust juice. Their conversation was cut short as Vader stood over their table and ignited his lightsaber.[13] The Eighth Brother observed as the Grand Inquisitor inquired if Vader was performing another test, to which the Dark Lord answered with a no and a swing of his blade at the Thirteenth Sister. Yaluna blocked the attack, allowing the Thirteenth Sister to escape. As Yaluna escaped as well, the Grand Inquisitor offered the help of the other Inquisitor's to Vader, to which he declined.[14]
By 3 BBY,[15] the Eighth Brother was tasked by Vader to locate Maul, the former apprentice to Sidious, known as "The Shadow."[1]
