Universal ports were a type of docking port used in the Unknown Regions of the galaxy. Over the centuries, many sentient species in the region adopted universal ports on their space stations to allow ships of different sizes and configurations to dock.[1]
In 19 BBY,[3] the Chiss Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo "Thrawn" of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet led a mission to the Rapacc system for the Chiss Ascendancy. In that star system, he and Caregiver Mitth'ali'astov "Thalias" boarded an abandoned mining station equipped with universal ports. The pair discovered that the station belonged to the Paccosh, a species native to the system's planet Rapacc, and whose government had been conquered by a mysterious threat.[1]
Behind the scenes
Universal ports appeared in the 2020 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Chaos Rising, the first installment of Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
