One member of this species was present on the planet Daiyu during the reign of the Galactic Empire[2] in 9 BBY.[3] They appeared to be contained in one of the tanks displaying creatures within the Daiyu marketplace, though only their head was visible, almost appearing to lack a body.[2] Later, in 34 ABY,[4] another member of this species was present at Canto Casino and Racetrack on the planet Cantonica.[1]

Behind the scenes

"Michael Kaplan's team pulled the proportions back to the original drawing by the cut and the design of the costume. It's subtly brilliant. His ability to have that sympathy with creatures makes him quite unique. It's one thing to dress the human body, but it's another to dress one of an alien that doesn't conform to human proportions. And to still be able to make it feel like, 'He's a sharp dressed guy, isn't he? He's got his spats on, his walking stick, and his tails. He absolutely looks like he's just come from Saville Row, kitted out for a night in Monte Carlo."

This species first appeared in the 2017 film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson.[1] They were originally designed by concept artist Ivan Manzella, though it the design was later altered by Michael Kaplan and team.[5] This species was one of two species created for The Last Jedi that were referred to by the production code "King 21."[5]

Keeper of the Holocron, Leland Chee, initially expressed that he did not know why this happened, clearing up the confusion by referring to the other species as "K021 species" in the official Holocron continuity database, while this one,[6] which he described simply as the "slimy alien,"[7] he said was still identified as "King 21" behind-the-scenes.[6] However, he later realized this species was also referred to by their correct production code, "King 36," which had erroneously been assigned to a different species that should have been titled "King 66A."[8] As of April 1, 2025, this species still did not have a name within Chee's Holocron.[6]
