A droid manufacturing company had manufactured the R1-M8 service droid by the time of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire.[1] By around 3643 BBY,[2] several R1-M8 droids malfunctioned and attacked their owners. The malfunctions were the result of the actions of a rookie slicer who sought to sabotage the company.[1]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

Around that year, an individual associated with one of the two opposing sides of the Cold War sent a companion to learn the cause of the malfunctioning R1-M8 service droids. The companion traced the malfunction back to the slicer, who was arrested, and the manufacturing company provided a reward for his arrest.[1]

Behind the scenes

The droid manufacturer was mentioned in the Crew Skill Mission "Domestic Dysfunction" in the 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, released by BioWare. The information regarding the mission's outcome was later removed from the game.[1]

  2. Per the reasoning here, Act I of Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place around 3643 BBY. Since players of The Old Republic can assign their companions on the mission "Domestic Dysfunction" independently of the main class storyline at any point during the game, the mission must take place at some point around 3643 BBY.
