The R1-M8 service droid was a model of service droid manufactured by the time of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire.[1] By around 3643 BBY,[3] several R1-M8 units malfunctioned and attacked their owners.[1]
Around that year, an individual associated with one of the two opposing factions of the Cold War sent a companion to determine the cause of the malfunctioning R1-M8 service droids. The companion traced the malfunctions to a rookie slicer attempting to sabotage the company that had manufactured the droids. The company subsequently gave a reward for the arrest of the slicer.[1]
Behind the scenes
The R1-M8 service droid was mentioned in the Crew Skill Mission "Domestic Dysfunction" in the 2011 video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, released by BioWare. The information regarding the mission's outcome was later removed from the video game.[1]
