The skin of the creature first appeared, albeit unidentified, in "Lop & Ochō," a short film in the first volume of the Star Wars: Visions series. The animated short, produced by Geno Studio, was released on Disney+[3] on September 22, 2021.[4] Prior to the short's release, the creature's skin was first depicted simultaneously in the original Japanese trailer for the series, which was uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel on August 17 of that year,[5] and in the English dub trailer, which was uploaded the same day.[6] The 2022 art book The Art of Star Wars: Visions, written by Zack Davisson, established that the material wrapping the Yasaburō clan's lightsaber's hilt was skin from the creature. The lightsaber, including the creature's skin wrapping it, was designed by Ren Ishimori. According to concept art notes for the lightsaber, the creature is the Tao equivalent of sharks and stingrays.[1]
