"Strong hit."
"Batted for the phaseball team back in the academy."
"With a blaster rifle?"
"First time for everything."
―Lourna Dee and Jon Wittick[1]

A phaseball team was based at an academy that the human Jon Wittick attended [1] by 231 BBY[2] during the High Republic Era. During his time at the academy, Wittick batted for the phaseball team.[1]

That year,[2] after the Galactic Republic prison ship Restitution—where Wittick served as a counselor—came under attack, the counselor hit away a scav droid with a blaster rifle. The prisoner Sal Krost—secretly the Nihil Tempest Runner Lourna Dee—noted the hit had been a strong one, and Wittick responded by mentioning his time batting for the academy's phaseball team. After Dee questioned if he had batted for it with a blaster rifle, the counselor stated there was a first time for everything.[1]

Behind the scenes

The academy's phaseball team was mentioned in The High Republic: Tempest Runner, a 2021 audio drama written by Cavan Scott and published as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[3] Phase I.[4]
