A droid was in charge of guarding the facility where the TIE Avenger prototype was located.

History

In 4 BBY, the droid guarded the prototype TIE Avenger in its hangar in Sienar Test Facility 73 on the planet 73. When a worker named Niya, who was secretly in contact with the Axis network, inspected the prototype, the droid was present. After Niya completed her check, she slotted her datapad into the droid. When the rebel operative Cassian Jeron Andor, assisted by Niya and disguised as an Imperial test pilot, entered the hangar with the intention of stealing the Avenger, he removed its fuel pipes and made a noise in the process. The droid came to investigate, and Andor shot it with his SE-14r blaster pistol.[1]

This was such a fun project to work on, and is an incredible show! For the Sienar droid I molded and cast the 'wings' in fiberglass, and the 'fingers' it walks with were silicone block molds and cast in urethane, with each joint being separate for articulation. The build for this guy was primarily looked after by Matt McMurray. All work done for Neal Scanlon's creature shop, with Kenny Wilson as Moldshop HOD." (backup link)
