"Have you encountered others like me? Where would you go to look for my kind?"
"I wouldn't!"
"I agree with my friend."
―Marda Ro, the Rodian, and a human[1]

A Rodian and his human companion were present in a public house in the oldest settlement on the planet Dantooine[1] around 381 BBY[2] when Marda Ro—the Evereni[1] founder of a group of pirates who would eventually become the Nihil[3]—visited it during[1] her[4] search for others of her species. The two sat at a table across the room from Ro, who recognized the human as someone familiar with the Evereni. After she walked over to their table to question the human, the Rodian yelped in shock from how close to him Ro was standing. When she asked where they would go to find others like her, he told her that he would not, a sentiment that his friend agreed with.[1]

Ro later mentioned the Rodian in a message she recorded for her descendants while recounting her visit of Dantooine.[1] By 252 BBY,[5] during his youth, Ro's great-great-grandson Marchion Ro had listened to her journal, including the message where the the Rodian was mentioned.[4]

Behind the scenes

The Rodian appeared in a flashback in the short story "A Closed Fist Has No Claws," written by Tessa Gratton and published in the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[1]
