"Who else knows about this?"
"Me, Ebbe, and the technician who picked up the signal and has been ordered to stay silent about the report."
―Joss Adren and Pevel Kronara[1]

An individual worked as a technician for the Republic Defense Coalition (RDC) during the High Republic Era.[1] In 228 BBY,[2] the technician received a call for help coming from a Nihil ship not far from the Stormwall,[1] a hyperspace barrier created by the Nihil marauder organization.[3] Admiral Pevel Kronara and Ensign Ebbe Casset of the RDC, who both learned about the ship, instructed the technician to remain secretive of the ship's whereabouts as it could help the Galactic Republic penetrate the Stormwall to enter Nihil space.[1]

Later on the planet Eriadu, Kronara met with RDC members Joss and Pikka Adren and requested they go on a private mission to intercept the ship. After piecing together it was a Nihil ship, Joss asked who else knew about the ship, to which Kronara explained it was just him, Casset, and the technician. The Adrens accepted the mission and departed from Eriadu not long after.[1]

Behind the scenes

The technician was mentioned in the short story "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal," written by Lydia Kang as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase III.[4] The story was published in the 222nd issue of the magazine Star Wars Insider as the first installment in the Tales from the Occlusion Zone serialized fiction on October 31, 2023.[5]

  2. Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and the expansion of the Stormwall occurs during its events, the expansion must also take place in 228 BBY. As "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" dates itself to "a little more than a year" after the destruction of Starlight Beacon and features the expansion of the Stormwall, its events must occur in 228 BBY.
