A Jedi who was long-dead[2] by 24 BBY[1] was once a friend of Separatist Head of State and Sith Lord Count Dooku, himself a former Jedi. After their death, their lightsaber fell into Dooku's possession. Following the shuttle crash orchestrated by Dooku to add Kaleesh warrior Grievous to the Separatist arsenal, Grievous was reconstructed as a cyborg and gifted the Jedi's lightsaber; it would become the first in his infamous collection.[2]
Behind the scenes
The lightsaber built by Dooku's friend.
Dooku's friend was first canonically mentioned in the "Helmets" department of the eighth issue of the magazine Star Wars Helmet Collection.[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, General Grievous' first lightsaber originally belonged to the Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, as depicted in the Star Wars: Visionaries comic strip The Eyes of Revolution,[3] published on March 16, 2005.[4] In both the current[5] and old continuity, Sifo-Dyas was a close friend of Dooku.[6]

Notes and references
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 Rise of the Separatists states that the Raxus Address took place two years before the First Battle of Geonosis. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the Battle of Geonosis to 22 BBY, therefore the Raxus Address must have occurred in 24 BBY. Star Wars Helmet Collection 8 states that Separatist technicians operated on Grievous immediately after his shuttle crash, which was shortly followed by the gifting of the by then "long-dead" Jedi's lightsaber to Grievous. The crash and subsequet must have occurred after the Raxus Address in order for individuals labeled as "Separatists" to exist. Therefore, the Jedi dies sometime before 24 BBY.
