"Fascinating! The local fauna are mutating rapidly, and I believe the lightning-spire could be the cause…"
―The researcher[1]

A researcher was a Human individual who worked for the Sith Empire during the Cold War.[1] Around 3643 BBY,[2] the researcher was stationed in the wilderness outside Kaas City on the planet Dromund Kaas, where the researcher led a study of unusual mutations observed in local wildlife. The researcher noted that fauna in the area had begun to mutate rapidly and believed it was caused by long-term exposure to lightning spires,[1] tall devices used by the Sith Empire to divert and harness the frequent lightning strikes on Dromund Kaas.[3]

To investigate further, the researcher requested assistance in collecting biological samples from the affected wildlife. These samples were later used for analysis of the creatures' altered behavior.[1] During the research, the camp was attacked by electrically-charged beasts. As the creatures moved toward the equipment, the researcher called for help to defend the camp so the analysis could be finished.[4]

Behind the scenes

The Imperial researcher appears in the dynamic encounter mission "Spire Consequences"[1] and "Shocking Developments"[4] introduced in Game Update 7.7: Dynamic Worlds, released on May 28, 2025, as part of Star Wars: The Old Republic: Legacy of the Sith,[5] the eighth digital expansion to the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic.[6]

  2. Per Forum:CT:Dating future SWTOR story and Dynamic Encounters, Wookieepedia treats Dynamic Encounters on the various planets in Star Wars: The Old Republic as occurring in the in-universe year that the respective planet's main events take place in, unless details of the encounter conflict with that date. Therefore, the events of Dynamic Encounter: "Spire Consequences", which takes place on Dromund Kaas, take place in 3643 BBY per the reasoning here.
