"Ambush! They're behind us!"
―The clone, while mounting their AT-RT[3]

A clone trooper was an Advanced Recon Force trooper in the Grand Army of the Republic's 501st Legion during the Clone Wars. During the Battle of Umbara in 20 BBY, the trooper operated an All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport, surviving the initial landing before being ultimately shot in the back and killed when the enemy Umbarans sneaked up behind their position.

Biography

An Advanced Recon Force trooper[3] was created as a clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett on the planet Kamino,[1] coming to serve in the Grand Army of the Republic's 501st Legion during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. During the Battle of Umbara[3] in 20 BBY,[2] the clone operated an All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport walker. The trooper survived the initial Republic landing on the planet Umbara and, under the leadership of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and Clone Captain Rex, dug in on a ridgeline just ahead of their landing site. As the Republic forces regrouped and rested, members of the Separatist-allied Umbaran Militia sneaked up behind them to launch a surprise attack. After deploying millicreep droids, the Umbarans began firing on the clones. The trooper, who was crouched next to their walker behind the trench where most of their forces were located, called out to alert the men before mounting the walker. However, the clone was shot in the back from atop the walker, dying before being able to fight back.[3]

Personality and traits

As a human male clone[3] of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, the ARF trooper had tan skin and was 1.83 meters (6 feet) tall,[1] weighing eighty kilograms.[4]

Equipment

The trooper wore standard Phase II ARF armor with the blue markings of the 501st Legion and operated an All Terrain Reconnaissance Transport.[3] Like every clone in the Republic army, the clone had a behavioral modification biochip implanted in their brain by the Kaminoan scientists to ensure compliance with certain orders.[1]

Behind the scenes

The ARF trooper appeared in "Darkness on Umbara,"[3] the seventh episode of the fourth season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which aired on October 28, 2011.[5] Like all clone troopers in the series,[6] the trooper was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.[3]
