Plot summary
Haunted by terrifying visions of her nemesis Vialco, Rebel pilot and fledging Jedi Fable Astin arrives on Trulalis, seeking training in self-defense. She tracks down the reclusive Adalric Brandl, an actor and former Imperial Inquisitor who has fallen out of favor with the Emperor. Fable trains under Adalric, learning difficult lightsaber skills while avoiding the temptations of the dark side of the Force. When Fable begins a romantic relationship with Adalric's son, Jaalib, however, the dark mentor becomes incensed and warns Fable to keep her distance.
Fable's enemy, the Inquisitor Vialco, confronts her on Trulalis, and with her newfound skills she is able to duel the dark warrior to a standstill. Using a Force illusion, Adalric tricks Fable into killing Vialco and then attempts to trap Fable on Trulalis by destroying her ship. He offers her power and even access to his son in exchange for her servitude on the dark side, but she refuses. Jaalib helps her escape Trulalis, even though he risks the wrath of his father.
