Tregan was the first of Belgaroth's two moons in the Belgaroth system in the Core Worlds. Tregan, like the other moon, Tyrel, was used by the Galactic Empire as a testing facility for gunnery[4] and for training maneuvers.[2]

Behind the scenes

The moons of the planet Belgaroth, Tregan and Tyrel, were created for the sourcebook Coruscant and the Core Worlds (2003) for the Star Wars Roleplaying Game by Wizards of the Coast. One of the game scenarios, «An Unexpected Stop», began with the characters’ ship breaking down, causing them to end up in the binary star system where the planet Belgaroth was located. Once in-system, the heroes witnessed four Imperial Star Destroyers firing on one of the planet's two moons. A flight of TIE fighters closed in on the heroes’ ship. A local commander informed them that all business was to be handled on the planet, and that they should follow the coordinates given in order to land. Any deviation would result in the ship being fired upon and boarded.

Upon landing on Belgaroth, the heroes met a Rebel spy who had been sent to ascertain exactly what the Empire was testing on the system's moons. If they decided to help, the mission required stealth and observation, as well as daring flying to get close enough to the Star Destroyers to take sensor readings. The Empire was testing firing mechanisms intended for use in a new superweapon – possibly the Death Star itself. Naturally, the heroes could not know the exact name of the weapons platform, but even catching an inkling about a «secret weapon» would foreshadow future events.
