Thyrsus was a terrestrial astronomical object[2] in the Thyrsus system in the Inner Rim Territories.[1] On Thyrsus, farming was seen as a cowardly occupation, only undertaken by those who did not wish to fight.[2] Thyrsus shared its name with the Thyrsus Sun Guard, a mercenary group with a long history,[3] and the Thyrsian battle helmet.[4]

Prior to becoming the administrator of the Starlight Beacon space station during the High Republic Era, the Soikan Velko Jahen underwent experiences on Thyrsus that she did not wish to remember. When Starlight Beacon was to host the annual meeting of the Galactic Agricultural Alliance, Jahen, who was unfamiliar with the importance placed on agriculture, was reminded that not every system had the same stance as was held on Thyrsus.[2]
