The Thrugii Asteroid Belt was a widespread belt of orbiting material in the Socorro system. It was present in three different orbitals, and astrogation reports suggested that they were the remains of three planets, destroyed when the system's primary, Sokor, blossomed into a red giant.
The Kanauer Corporation claimed all rights to the Belt and mined the asteroids for small quantities of doonium and turminum. Since the Galactic Empire had no presence in the Socorro system, the corporation felt free to turn outsiders away at blaster point.
Behind the scenes
Patricia A. Jackson's short story "When the Domino Falls," published in August 1994 in the Star Wars Adventure Journal 3, introduced the planet Thrugii, located in an asteroid belt that was at least one hyperspace jump away from Socorro.[3] However, the 1997 supplement The Black Sands of Socorro, also by Jackson, instead introduced the Thrugii Asteroid Belt in the Socorro system, and established that Socorro and Neftali were the only planets in the system.[2] The Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion later established the Thrugii system in the same sector as Socorro.[1]
