The Thousand Moons system was located in the Circarpous sector,[1] a part of the Slice portion of[2] the Expansion Region.[1] A decorative pattern of clothing incorporating both dots and various types of lines was common in the star system.[3]
In 22 BBY,[4] Padmé Amidala, the Galactic Republic senator of the planet Naboo, and Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Padawan tasked with Amidala's protection against would-be assassins, traveled from the galactic capital world Coruscant to Naboo aboard[3] the freighter Jendirian Valley.[5] During their incognito journey, the Human pair wore clothing that disguised them as refugees, with Amidala wearing a dress of a young Thousand Moons matron and Skywalker's attire including a tunic decorated with the pattern that was popular in the Thousand Moons system.[3]
Behind the scenes
- "I wouldn't call Iego/Thousand Moons an error. Thousand Moons is from the Attack of the Clones Visual Guide [sic]—Anakin and Padme [sic] wear that system's fashions while posing as refugees. I doubt they'd wear the fashions of a legendary system—that would attract attention. One's a name, the other's an appellation."
- ―Jason Fry
The Thousand Moons system was introduced in Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary.
The Thousand Moons system was first mentioned in the 2002 reference book Star Wars: Attack of the Clones: The Visual Dictionary, which was authored by David West Reynolds.[7] Although the Legacy Era Campaign Guide,[8] a sourcebook published by Wizards of the Coast on March 19, 2009[9] for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, also introduced the moniker "Thousand Moons system" with respect to the planet Iego,[8] The Essential Atlas,[2] a reference book published in August 18 of the same year,[10] differentiated between the two "Thousand Moon systems" by placing the former in grid square O-12 and the latter in square T-7.[2] Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas, later confirmed on the Jedi Council Forums of TheForce.net that the separate placements were intentional.[6]
