The Thesme sector was located in the Outer Rim Territories. While some worlds threatened to secede during the Clone Wars, the sector ultimately remained loyal to the Galactic Republic under its Human senator, Silya Shessaun. Under the Galactic Empire, a new senator was appointed, followed by a sector governor. The new appointee was corrupt and allowed criminal activities to flourish in parts of the sector. In the midst of this corruption, members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic were able to use some of the Thesme sector's worlds to transfer supplies to their neighboring base in the Yavin system.

During the Galactic Civil War, the sector was one of hundreds assimilated into Bright Jewel Oversector.

History

The Thesme sector was located in the Outer Rim Territories, along the Hydian Way. Another hyperlane, the Thesme Trace, intercepted the Way in the Feriae system, creating a trading hub. The sector included the planets Feriae Junction[4] and Thesme.[6]

Thesme was an industrial world, and the capital of the Thesme sector. During the latter days of the Galactic Republic, the sector's senatorial representative, Silya Shessaun, was a native of the planet. A staunch loyalist during the Clone Wars, she mediated a number of disputes in her sector involving worlds that threatened to secede to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. However, Shessaun was later made to step down from office by the Galactic Empire, who replaced her with a more pro-Imperial senator; despite her resolute support of the Republic, her friendship with senators in the Delegation of 2000, such as Padmé Amidala, had cast a shadow over her future allegiance to the Empire.[6] Later, as the internal structure of the Empire changed, an Imperial governor was appointed to the sector. However, the governor was known to be corrupt and open to bribes, creating room for criminal activity to flourish in some parts of the Thesme sector. Slavers were allowed to prey on a number of the sector's backwater worlds without fear of too much Imperial interference.[4] One such group was the Zygerrian Slavers Guild, which had links on Feriae Junction.[1]

Feriae Junction was a trade world that boomed during the Corusca gem rush in the nearby Yavin system. However, when the rush passed, the planet's fortunes turned and it became a haven for less reputable sorts. During the Galactic Civil War, it was the principle transfer point for supplies heading to the Alliance to Restore the Republic base on Yavin 4.[4]

The Thesme sector was later incorporated into the Bright Jewel Oversector, along with hundreds of other Mid Rim and Outer Rim sectors, by the Galactic Empire. This Oversector was governed by Grand Moff Nox Vellam.[8]

Inhabitants

Members of the B'trillan species were a common sight on the worlds of the Thesme sector.[5]

Behind the scenes

The Thesme sector was first named in The Hunt Within: Valance's Tale by Jason Fry. However, the name "Thesme" first appeared in Zygerrian Takedown, also by Fry, in reference to the Thesme Trace.

While originally being located withing the Yavin system,[9] the Ferrous Aurora Nebula was placed in the Thesme sector by the The Essential Atlas Online Companion.[2] Jason Fry, author of The Essential Atlas, later acknowledged that the placement in the Online Companion was erroneous.[10]
