"The Prize Pelt: The Tale of Bossk" is a short story written by Kathy Tyers and featured in Tales of the Bounty Hunters, which was published in December 1996 by Bantam Spectra. It concerns the backstory of the bounty hunter Bossk.

Plot summary

Bossk answers Darth Vader's call to capture the Millennium Falcon in the hope of skinning Chewbacca, his hated Wookiee foe. To that end, he reluctantly teams with the Wookiee hunter Chenlambec and his Human apprentice, Tinian I'att, who promise to use their Wookiee contacts to find their prey. According to Chen and Tinian, Chewbacca has taken refuge with escaped Wookiee slaves on Lomabu III. Bossk flies his temporary allies to Lomabu III aboard his ship, Hound's Tooth, all the while plotting a betrayal. The bloodthirsty Bossk sees this as an opportunity to destroy the entire Wookiee colony. Unbeknownst to him, Chen and Tinian actually plan to betray Bossk – their sentient computer probe named Flirt helps them commandeer the starship. They redirect Bossk's destructive efforts into the Imperial weapons towers overlooking a Wookiee slave camp, thus freeing the captives. Bossk is trapped aboard his own vessel, and Chen and Tinian hand him over to Imperial governor Io Desnand. The governor plans to kill and skin the Trandoshan to make a gown for his female companion.
