"The Last Battle of Colonel Jace Malcom" is a short story written by Alexander Freed that appears in the magazine Star Wars Insider 137 in 2012, tying into the Star Wars: The Old Republic video game. The story tells of Colonel Jace Malcom's last battlefield assignment before being assigned away from the frontlines by the Supreme Chancellor.
Plot summary
Jace Malcom debates with a fellow soldier about whether the Sith will send vultures to pick off their wounded soldiers on Kalandis 7. After a short conversation, they decide to leave their fellow soldier behind. They proceed to navigate a series of canyons, where the fog is thick and their communications equipment receives a propaganda report about the Empire's withdrawal from Corellia.
They make it through the canyon and onto a cracked plain, where they drop a beacon so their fighters can target a spaceport with explosives. They take down two Imperial soldiers with blaster bolts before proceeding to plant the beacon, then decide to go after an enemy ship in order to find the locations of other Imperial targets on Kalandis 7.

Forums: Dear Story Team, What Year Are We Currently In? on The Old Republic's official website (backup link) and Star Wars: The Old Republic Encyclopedia date the finales of Star Wars: The Old Republic's class storylines in 3640 BBY, and place the subsequent Battle of Ilum at the end of that same year. As "The Last Battle of Colonel Jace Malcom" takes place after the Battle of Corellia in 3640 BBY, and Malcom states it has been 40 years since the start of the Great Galactic War in 3681 BBY, the story must thus take place in 3640 BBY.
