"The Final Exit" is a short story written by Patricia A. Jackson that was originally published in Star Wars Adventure Journal 4 by West End Games in November 1994. It was reprinted in The Best of the Star Wars Adventure Journal, Issues 1-4 as well as the short-story anthology Tales from the Empire. It was later archived online at Hyperspace on October 1, 2004. It was also included in a Czech-language anthology, Setkání v mlze, in 2009.

Plot summary

A moody fallen Jedi named Aldaric Brandl hires a smuggling vessel to take him to the planet Trulalis. The dark sider pays for the ship’s captian, Thaddeus Ross, to accompany him to Kovit settlement. There, Adalric visits the theatre stage where he once performed as an actor, seeking forgiveness from his old mentor, master Otias. But there is no salvation to be found in the past for Adalric – not in his former career onstage, nor in the presence of his young son, Jaalib.

Leaving Trulalis aboard Thaddeus’ vessel, Adalric is tracked down by the Imperial Star Destroyer Interrogator, flagship of High Inquisitor Tremayne. The Imperials capture Adalric, and Thaddeus is surprised to receive a hefty portion of a bounty for returning a fugitive to the Emperor. Adalric, however, does not surrender himself quietly. Stealing one of Thaddeus’ thermal detonators, he creates havoc aboard the Star Destroyer.

Continuity

Though the story left Adalric’s fate vague – he might have perished in the explosion – he proved to be alive in the follow up tale, Uhl Eharl Khoehng, set in 0 BBY.[2]
