Usage instructions
This infobox takes a number of optional parameters relating to the various hidden tracking Category:Astronomical tracking categories; these should be placed at the top of the infobox as the first parameters if necessary:
|no_grid_check=– disables all of the tracking categories, as well as the Category:Locations by grid square logic. Used for edge cases where such information is not possible, or not necessary.|unlisted=– disables all of the tracking categories like above, but places the page in Category:Astronomical objects unlisted in the Appendix. This should be reserved for systems/planets/etc. that are known by codenames or otherwise fall into the "unlisted" grouping as indicated by Jason Fry: "We've also taken some star systems out of the appendix and moved them to an internal unlisted section. There's nothing mysterious about this — it's for systems known by code names (such as Futility Station and Havoc Outpost), that are extragalactic (such as Kamino and Peridea), or that lack defined coordinates (mostly in the Unknown Regions). These systems still “exist” in lore, they're just no longer listed here."- For {{SpaceStation}}, the
|is_mobile=parameter can be used for space stations that are mobile and thus do not qualify for the astronomical fields such as region and system. Examples include the DS-1 Orbital Battle Station and Lightning Crash.
The following tracking categories are generated, primarily for canon articles, depending on infobox fields. Legends articles are not included as any future updates to the Star Systems of the Galaxy appendix will not affect them:
- Star systems and sectors that lack a
|region=value are placed in Category:Systems and sectors without region. - All other astronomical objects that lack a
|region=value are placed in Category:Astronomical objects without region. - Star systems that lack a
|sector=value are placed in Category:Systems with unknown sector; for systems that explicitly lack a sector in the appendix, "None" should be used to place the page in Category:Systems with unknown sector instead. Systems that fall in non-sector regions, as denoted with * in the appendix, should use N/A. The "None" and N/A values will not display to the reader. - Nebulae that double as sectors should use "Self" in the sector field to suppress the tracking category.
- All other astronomical objects that lack a
|sector=value are placed in Category:Astronomical objects without region or Category:Astronomical objects with unknown sector, depending on whether the field is blank, "N/A" or "None" like above. - {{CelestialBody}}, {{Star}}, {{SpaceStation}}, and any other system-level astronomical objects that lack a
|system=value will be placed in Category:Astronomical objects without system. There is no suppressor value for this category. - All astronomical objects, systems and sectors included, that lack a value for
|coordinates=will be placed in Category:Locations without grid coordinates, though Legends articles and space stations are placed in their own dedicated subcategory of this category. If a topic falls under the "unlisted" criteria as defined above, the|unlisted=parameter should be used. - Non-canon and unlicensed astronomical objects that are missing region, sector, system or grid coordinates are placed in Category:Non-canon astronomical objects with incomplete data, so as to reduce the number of false positives when viewing the other categories.
- Unidentified astronomical objects missing region, sector, system or grid coordinates are placed in Category:Unidentified astronomical objects with incomplete data, as they are unlikely to receive location information unless named.
- Legends locations that received grid coordinates in the canon appendix may populate the coordinates field with "Canon-only", which will place them in Category:Legends locations with canon-only grid coordinates and suppress the missing-coordinates category.
Copy and paste the following code into the top of the article, filling the appropriate fields. Omitted or blank fields will not be shown on the article page.
