Tempest Force was a legion^[6] of Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine's best troops.^[2] A naval trooper detachment of the Force was led by Major Hewex and Lieutenant Renz.^[1] Tempest Force was garrisoned on the forest moon of Endor during the Galactic Civil War, being tasked with guarding the Galactic Empire's shield generator bunker.^[6] In 4 ABY,^[11] the legion battled a Rebel Alliance strike team and native Ewok warriors during the Battle of Endor. The bunker was ultimately destroyed by the rebels, disabling the shield generator and allowing the Death Star it defended to also be destroyed.^[2]

Description

Tempest Force^[6] was a legion^[2] that served as the garrison of Imperial Military forces on the Forest Moon of Endor. Tempest Force consisted of Imperial Army and Imperial Navy personnel and units,^[1] including the Ghost Lancers scout trooper company,^[8] Gamma Squad, Theta Squad,^[7] a scout trooper platoon, a stormtrooper squad,^[9] and an Imperial Navy Trooper detachment.^[1] The legion was armed with All Terrain Armored Transports, All Terrain Scout Transports piloted by AT-ST drivers, 74-Z speeder bikes.^[2]

History

During the Galactic Civil War, Tempest Force was deployed to the surface of Endor tasked with the mission of defending the shield generator complex that protected the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station under construction in the moon's orbit.^[2] In 4 ABY,^[12] Tempest Force participated in the Battle of Endor against a Rebel Alliance special forces strike team that sought to destroy the deflector shield generator. Initially capturing the strike team, the legion came under attack by native Ewok warriors, resulting in a fierce engagement outside the Imperial structure. Eventually, Alliance forces broke through and destroyed the generator, and shortly after the second Death Star was destroyed.^[2] Following the battle station's destruction, Tempest Force survivors battle against Rebel Alliance reinforcements, and were aided by Inferno Squad's presence.^[13]

Members

Tempest Force consisted of a variety of Imperial officers.^[2] General Ire Falk served as the Imperial Army commander on Endor,^[3] Colonel Dyer served as the commander of the shield generator complex,^[14] while Major Hewex served as the commander of the Imperial Navy Trooper detachment.^[1] Other officers included Major Newland,^[4] Imperial Army Commander Altadan Igar,^[15] Lieutenant Blanaid,^[5] Lieutenant Renz,^[1] and Sergeant Hume Tarl.^[6]

Tern Koyatta was a maintenance technician within the Endor detachment who later claimed himself to have been a general^[16] and administrator of a hidden weapons cache.^[17] Koyatta had fabricated his rank by stealing a uniform off a dead Imperial officer during the Battle of Endor and using a code cylinder.^[16]

Behind the scenes

In the current canon, Tempest Force was first identified by name in Cat Staggs's art print for Celebration Anaheim.^[18] The capitalization of "Tempest Force" was later clarified in a preview for Star Wars: Legion.^[6]
