"Subject one, human female, twenty-seven standard years of age. DNA analysis reveals some telomere anomalies identifying her as a native of Ko-Longava or Hyperkarn."
―A protocol droid[1]

Telomere anomalies were a phenomenon that could be revealed through analysis of DNA. They could reveal an individual's homeworld.[1] In 21 ABY,[2] while the Zeltron regent-captain of the Nightside mining operation Zargo Anaximander held the human refugees Dathan, Miramir, and Rey—sought by the Sith assassin Ochi of Bestoon—aboard his mining operation, he had bioscans of the family done. Later, a protocol droid reported the results to Anaximander and noted that telomere anomalies discovered through DNA analysis of Miramir—a native of the planet Hyperkarn—indicated her to be hailing from either Hyperkarn or a location known as Ko-Longava.[1]

Behind the scenes

Telomere anomalies were mentioned in the 2022 novel Shadow of the Sith, written by Adam Christopher.[1] In the real world, telomeres are caps that protect the ends of chromosomes and grow shorter during cell division.[3]
