The Taurannik Codex was an ancient tome[1] that had once fallen into the hands of the death cult known as the Knell of Muspilli, based in the Gunninga Gap deep within the Unknown Regions. The cultists transcribed the Codex in an attempt to summon apocalyptic deities from beyond the Gap's spatial fissure.[2] However, around 100,000 BBY, the tome was destroyed during the Muurshantre Extinction and was long considered lost.[1]
A hundred millennia later, during the era of the Galactic Empire, the dark side adept Cronal explored the Unknown Regions in search of knowledge that might grant him unlimited power. Within the Gunninga Gap, he wandered among drifting moon trees until he discovered the remaining scraps of the Codex. Arcane hints preserved within that forbidden text eventually led him to the ruins of a colossal temple[1] near the Valtaullu Rift.[2]
Behind the scenes
In the sourcebook The Unknown Regions, certain Taurannix chapbooks were mentioned. It remained unclear whether any connection existed between the objects, or if the word «Taurannix» had simply been a misspelling of «Taurannik».
